Martin is never going to finish the story
He is old, obese and probably won't be alive in five years. He should just hand over his notes to a worthy successor and let that person finish the story.

Yeah, the end is awful, but the beginning is magnificent.
shareHe's literally lost the plot, the first two books were magnificent, but then he just started letting the characters wander around randomly.
He's made a mess of the books that can't be fixed! So even if the nasty rumors are true and HBO changed his ending and he's contractually obligated to keep his mouth shut about his outrage, it's still to late to use the books to rectify things.
