This show had it all, and was shat out in the last one, or few series.
If struggling for ideas, why didn't they offer $50,000 to the fan with the greatest story ending? There are loads of brilliant and inventive ideas on Youtube alone.
Of course they did they wanted to shut the door and sabotage the plans for prequels/sequels for HBO, there was some bad blood with HBO management.
But being the idiots they are they ruined their own careers in Hollywood no one wants them near any franchise anymore and Disney broke the Star Wars contract.
I wasn't incredibly disappointed with the ending but yeah, it could have been a lot better.
But what are some of the alternate endings you've read on YT?
Personally, I think a wicked ending like the White Walkers kill everyone would have been kind of funny and rather fitting. Tywin or Tyrion ending up on the thrown at the end would have been another decent option in my view.
There are so many ways this could have ended. I think most people are just pissed-off because it didn't have the "sword and sorcery super hero" ending. The thing is, GoT never exhibited any hint of heroism in this show. Everyone is a bad guy with the exception of maybe a few rare choices.
My dream ending would have taken more time: Briefly, in S8 everyone teams up to fight the WW, but divisions between Jon and Danerys become stronger and stronger, Dany starts to go slowly round the bend, and it's clear that once they no longer have a common cause it's knives out. So once they kill the Night's King and the rest of the Others fall down, So S9 is more tragic civil war, where all the main characters and all the nations of Westeros choose Team Dany and Team Jon, and there is no more plot armor. Beloved characters kill each other in a pointless war, where each leader has one dragon and Westeros's economy has collapsed.
I haven't quite made up my mind who ends up ruling at the end, probably Jon, and he doesn't want to rule and he sure as hell doesn't want to marry a Sand Snake or his cousin Sansa, but he has to, to keep the Seven Kingdoms together! Or it could be Gendry, with Tyrion pulling his strings, or it could be Tyrion and Sansa forced back together, as they're the next of kin of Jon and Danerys, respectively! And the show ends with them being brilliant rulers, who are privately wondering if there's enough alcohol in the world to get them to touch each other...
Jon on the throne would have been a pretty good ending, Otter.
A big war between Jon and Dany would have worked as well. I just wish they would have put some more thought into it. The last season felt a little rushed. Maybe HBO didn't want to back the show anymore? I'm really not sure why they chose the ending they did. Maybe there are some D&D interviews on the net explaining this decisions...
But just about anything would have been a better ending.
It's true, just about anything would have been better than the last episode! King Jon, or Gendry, or Queen Sansa! Seven or eight independent kingdoms that are all going to start fighting again as soon as the last episode ends! Anything but the disgraceful, stupid, lazy, worthless clusterfuck of a script that we actually got, don't get me started.
There's also the rumor that GRRM actually DID intend for Jon to end up on the throne, and that those dickbags D&D bought GRRM's outline but changed it because they wanted an ending with more shock valuethan King Jon. And that GRRM was contractually obligated to keep quiet about that.
