How come we never see Davos' wife?

She's apparently alive in the series. Is he an uncaring husband?

reply

I presume the wife was smart enough to stay home, and to have nothing to do with that creep Stannis.

In the books, btw, Davos was said to have a wife and a bunch of kids, in the series he just had the one son who died at Blackwater Bay.

I noticed Ser Davos' also seems really unfazed by his son's death as well, if there was any mourning it's never shown on camera.

The boy probably wasn't his which would explain his lack of grief and his apparent estrangement from his wife. On the other hand he deeply loved the Princess Shireen and was devastated by her death. I wonder...

Interesting line of thought!

But seriously, I think that Davos adored Shireen because 1) he missed his son and the kid was in some desperate need of some kindly parenting, and 2) because they were on Dragonstone forever and she was the only good, decent, likeable human being there.

Okay, Davos is very likable, but good? He spent years abetting the evil Stannis and his human sacrifices!

reply

I think the real question should be is how come Davos never sees his wife???

reply

Could be she left him after Stannis punished him. Some chicks have finger fetishes ;)

Davos' wife is living in his fief in the Stormlands, raising his younger children. It's too dangerous for her to travel along with Davos through Stannis' war, and he never gets the opportunity to visit her. Although in the books he at least once or twice thinks about leaving Stannis' service and going home to be with his wife and remaining kids.

reply

He's busy improving the family's status. Unfortunately for her, this often comes with new wives.
