Daenerys/dragon question about episode 5

On last nights episode Daenerys used one dragon to completely destroy the iron fleet, the golden company, and all of Cersei’s troops. She literally did not need any help whatsoever from anyone else. She just needed one dragon. Why didn’t she just do this several seasons ago once the three dragons reached full size? Back then the iron fleet, the golden company, and all those crossbows wouldn’t have been at Kings Landing plus she would have had three dragons so it would have been even easier.

She listened to her advisors (Tyrion, Varys and Jon) who didn't think it was in anyone's long term interests to burn the city.

She didn't need to burn the city. The city surrendered last night after their military was mostly destroyed. If the city was caught off guard a few seasons ago and was being overwhelmed by three dragons they would have surrendered then too.

You're right, but as you saw in the Battle of Winterfell, they don't do proper military strategy on this show.

And probably because she was told before that she’d need armys and ships (to get them across) and she didn’t really know the damage that she could do. And, as was mentioned, to not burn everything down - she couldn’t have known if the city would surrender or not before all that.
