Killing Missandei

She was maybe the nicest character on the show, someone the fans were hoping would have a happy ending. And to see her beheaded?? so senselessly - to me this is very bad writing, and will hurt the series.

Honestly, I never cared much about her. She's very beautiful and has been likeable enough, but I won't miss her.

Sadly, her death is a painfully obvious move to push Danerys further over the edge. It's yet another clumsy move, in the weirdly accelerated push to make Dany look crazy.

reply

Dany's been crazy all along.

reply

No, she's been ruthless and in pursuit of goals that aren't considered acceptable in the modern world, but she's never been crazy. Even last season, she was sane and reasonable enough to clue in that fighting the Others was more important than her stupid quest for the Iron Throne.

Take it form someone who deals with the mentally ill as part of my job, she's been rock-solid sane until now.

I think basically she follows the ethic of Khal Drogo - that is, you take what you want and don't allow others to dictate your life to you. Her life evolved from being a tribal queen to a regional warlord, dealing with all sorts of treacherous scumbags who arguably deserved the response they received from Dany in those various situations from her past. I don't think she should become a tyrant but just now it's looking like she might destroy everything in the city and wage further wars around Westeros to prove she is not to be trifled with, and most importantly never to be challenged again because challenges rob her of the things she loves.

reply

That's the thing, she's ruthless and ambitious, and has a very inconsistent ethical basis for her actions - so inconsistent that I consider her to be badly written. She's done all sort of good and noble things, so she seems to have some basic decency in her, but she's also okay with executing people who get in her way and campaigns of conquest that leave thousands dead or impoverished. The writers did a much better job with Tywin Lannister, who was also ruthless and ambitious and frequently evil but capable of decency, he never seemed as inconsistent as Dany does!

Both are completely sane, or have been for seven seasons. Being an awful human being isn't the same thing as being crazy.

reply

It all felt very rushed. She gets captured halfway into the episode and by the end of the episode she's beheaded, and she only appears in those 2 scenes I think (one very briefly). I'd like to think that had they more episodes the whole capture and death may have been expanded. Old GOT would have fleshed it out.

reply

I liked her character and she is a beautiful woman but her story line is over and her death achieved what it was supposed to...the further decent of Dany into madness.

reply

Well, compared to what happened to Septa Unella, Missandei received a good clean death.

reply

it advances the story. she was Dany's closest friend (maybe her only friend, after Jorah died). Cersei would have done it.

Miss Andei

Andei means "I walked" in Portuguese.

Ande means "Spirit" in Swedish and "walk" in Portuguese.
