Even if Daenerys bests her enemies and spares King's Landing, what if Cersei gets desperate and uses the wildfire under the city when she realizes all is lost? She's done it before. People hate Deanerys, but Cersei is worse.

shareRealistically there shouldn't be any left, but this is a Season of horrible writing and 'shock value' so yeah there is probably a barrel loaded with wildfire underneath every single building in King's Landing.
shareI think this is what is motivating Jaime to go back. He figured out what Cersei is planning.
I think Cersei is planning on torching the city with wildfire and framing Dany, which people will believe because Dany's dad was the mad king who tried to do the same.
Jaime has to succeed. What a terrible end for the story if Daenerys were tried and executed for something Cersei had done!

Tyrion has proven himself utterly useless in trying to out-anticipate his sister. Jaime as her twin knows exactly how she thinks better than anyone. He had clearly figured out what her next move would be after spending half the night pondering when he told Brienne he was going back. He dropped a hint why by saying "she's a really hateful person, and so am I".
Dany’s MO in Slaver’s Bay was to play the liberator. She could justify extreme violence as warranted against tyrannical oppressors. She figures what is Cersei, if not a tyrant? She doesn't seem to get that Westerosis see her as the tyrant because of who her father was and Cersei is utterly baiting her to live up to that image.
But yeah it really does appear to be all coming down to Jaime.
