That was the worst battle plan I have ever seen...

So they had nothing to do but prep for the dead, and that's their big plan? Lose an entire army of horseback riders off in the darkness while everyone else stays back and watches?

Why not at least start with Dragon fire to deplete the horde and force them out of the wave of death. The horse army would have been so much more effective picking up straddlers that made it through the flame...

And lastly, and this criticism is directed squarely at Jon Snow. So you found yourself a fancy new dragon, that's great, how about not putting your loyal Dire Wolf Ghost on the front lines... some people just shouldn't be pet owners.. :)

Anyway that's enough griping, I actually loved the episode, outside of the horrible battle plan.

I think his dragon survived or at least one of them did. And Ghost evidently survived too. He must have been one of those running back in the retreat..(I did have the same thought you did about both the army and Ghost running along side them..WTF?).
But to be honest I've never seen feudal medieval warfare that didn't always look suicidal.
