Jaime Who’s Headed North.

Everyone’s speculating about the fate of Jaime who’s headed north to Wintefell, I felt I just had to write. You have numerous articles on the web who say he might either be killed or have a hell of a time getting into Winterfell. Well I for one think he’s going to be fine. Sure everyone is going to be surprised when he shows up there but Jon’s a good guy & Dany will be civil too. Jaime’s got Tryion there to vouch for him, plus Dany knows 1 Lannister already, she won’t mind having two.

Plus what is everyone afraid they’re going to do to the guy? First off he deserted his own sister due to loyalty to their cause. He’s giving them a heads up that she is screwing them over & what to expect. At least that’s how I hope the script goes anyway, so they have to be grateful to him for that & if he wants to place himself under Jon’s command & fight the good fight under Dany’s queenship for the fate of humanity then I say “welcome”

Yes, yes, there’s the “Bran” factor where everyone’s afraid that he’ll tell everyone what happened to him at Jaime’s hand, & that they’ll kill him for it. But even if Bran’s powers causes him to remember, he’s wise enough to know that this is quite a different man that stands before him as the one who was responsible for having him crippled. Bran will know his heart & that Jaime is not there to double cross anybody but wants to truly fight alongside them for the greater good. Plus he’s got a lot of guts showing up there to boot. Sansa for her part, doesn’t hate Jaime, I don’t think. He was never responsible for any mistreatment of her. Arya can learn to get along with him plus Jaime is such a honest & direct sort, Jon would more than respect that & so would Dany for that matter.

Plus again he’s got 2 great friends there at Winterfell, first his brother Tyrion who has Dany’s ear & don’t forget Brienne of Tarth, Sansa’s personal knight & bodyguard whom I’m sure will vouch for Jaime, & Sansa will naturally take her word into account.

The only thing that would make me happier is for Bronn to ditch Cersei & travel or catch up with Jaime at Winterfell where he can reunite with Tyrion & all can be well with the world again. It would be dumb if the storyline had to do with him being captured & in prision or hurt or killed.

How do you think the plotline with Jaime to Winterfell is going to go? Let me hear your thoughts

Interesting. I also think they'll argue but eventually agree to accept him in the dire fight that is to come.

I personally think Jamie'll die fighting the wights in the huge war, along with other favourites, before Cersei betrays them all.

I agree. I'm more worried about Jaime after he gets accepted. And I feel pretty certain that he will after some division.
I would be pleasantly surprised if he somehow survived the end...but it's very doubtful.
He will likely die a hero.

My guess is that Jaime and Brienne of Tarth (my second-favorite character, after Arya) will die courageously for each other.

And they will fight like no one we’ve seen before.

He's been outflanked politically and running away, using honor as an excuse. Maybe Jaime is looking to fill the page in his book of deeds. Maybe he'll marry Daenerys. Maybe Arya will kill him.

I think he's more personally fed up than outflanked politically, he's so sick of Cersei's shit that he's gotten to the point of "ANYTHING is better than this".

Politically, he knows that Cersei is doomed, and due to the clan-based nature of Westeros politics, there's no way in hell he can avoid going down with her. All he thinks he has to gain is to die with some honor in the war between the living and the dead, and to experience life out from under her thumb.

Great observations on your part Otter. Feel that you’re 100% right & while I appreciate your take on it McQualude I feel you’re being too pessimistic & harsh in determining Jaime’s reasons for leaving & going north.

Thing is I think he wants to do the right thing & Otter is right. Sad to say but the way the world he lives in is set up, he’s pretty much doomed as Otter says just by being a Lannister & Cersei’s brother. He’ll get crucified by association which isn’t right but that’s the world he comes from. Again as Otter states the best he can do is to go & fight the good fight wherever he may be welcomed & hopefully needed. He’s got invaluable battlefield & tactic skills that will be in demand soon enough.

Once again as Otter suggests, the best he can do is being seen being out there & in the forefront & hopefully fight & maybe die with honor & people’s opinions will eventually change I think regarding him & who the true Lannister villain is.

Plus finally being free of Cersei’s influence will make him feel like a new man. He’ll find that he never knew life could be like this however long it lasts. It’ll all be more than worth it for him.

And I wanted to add: he's got one more thing to gain, and that's knowing that for once in his life... he's serving a monarch who deserves his services. That'll be a first! He's seen Danerys stop her campaign of conquest to go fight the undead, something Cersei would never do, and neither would Robert Baratheon or Aerys Targaryan. That makes her worthy right there (and I'd never have done it myself; I'd have fried Cersei at the conference, declared myself monarch, and told everyone that now all Westeros is going to fight the undead, no arguments).

And frankly, I think he's got a good chance of surviving the coming shitshow, claiming the Westerlands as his own, and marrying Brienne. And we'll believe that she'll keep him on the straight and narrow, because he's programmed to do anything the woman in his life tells him to do.

I'm curious in how Jaime's meeting Dany will go though. Among the many themes present throughout the show, two have been A) Breaking your oath is bad stuff, and B) Jaime has a past. Jaime killed Dany's father, and Dany knows this. Granted, she also knows that Ole Dad was a terrible person, but still, JAIME KILLED HER FATHER. And he killed him after he swore an oath to protect him with his life. And unlike us, Dany probably doesn't know the reason (I doubt she would have talked to Brienne about it before he arrives). And even if she did, would it be enough for her to let bygones be bygones?

I'm not saying it will go badly. But I am interested in seeing that aspect play out.

Since Jamie's defection from Cersei is a huge political win for Danerys, she isn't going to try him for killing her father or anything.

Frankly, it'll probably be boring and huggy, with Tyrion convincing Jamie to tell all and confirming how much wildfire was stored under King's Landing. But it'd be so much more fun if that didn't happen, and Danerys reacted like a good politician would... welcoming Jamie with open arms, and putting him in a position where he's absolutely guaranteed to be killed in battle. That way, she'd both get justice for her father's murder, and keep the political capital he brought her.

Well both Jaime & Cersei were gracious (for them) hosting Dany & her court when she was there for their help I doubt she’s going to be cruel to Jaime but I guess we’ll have to see.

There also was a little matter of Drogo being present but hey let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.

Jaime is a typical blonde-haired blue-eye idiot fop. What kind
of an idiot falls for his own sister, and sires is it two or three
children with her? He has been OK with corruption and vice for
his whole life, it's in his blood.

If he goes North to join Tyrion and Dani he will surely try to
bring them down. This show has been very good at seducing us
with humor, charm, looks or whatever, and then having evil
triumph. I don't trust him, he is a defective person who happens
to have been rich and powerful due to nothing he did, and made
nothing but mistakes.

All these noble people are snakes, and those who want to be nobles
too. Bron used to be a honest sell-sword, and now he is back-stabbing
his friends.

Just like in real life, it is impossible for the average man to catch a
break for the criminals and gangsters who are trying to rip them off.

He saw the white walker that Jon brought to them and I think he was genuinely freaked out by it and realized what they were up against. I don't think his sister could care and if / when the war with the dead comes to end, she will attack Jon and Danny. I believe Jamie will fight bravely and honestly with Jon Snow in the war against the dead. What happens after that will be interesting.

I sort of agree with you about Jamies character. Like his father before him, he has no morals... just standards. Right and wrong don't matter to him, just appearances and end results.

Which is why his relationship with Brienne is so important!

He's unlike his father in that he's easily dominated, especially by women. So if both he and Brienne survive and they get married, she really will keep him on the straight and narrow. He'd never leave her the way he left Cersei, because she'd never lead him down a disastrous path the way Cersei was doing, except in a totally noble cause. And in that case, he'd go down with her.

The thing about Jaime is that he is good-looking,
and to live with himself he seems to do the right
thing .... every once in a while. That is a kind of
endearing characteristic in a fictional character, the
tension and then release, predictable, and it fulfills
our expectations when he does the right thing ....
until he doesn't - and then we want to see what are
the consequences.

Another thing about Jaime is that when he does the
right thing it often is bad for him, painful, and he fights
against it so much. I think we seem to be happy to see
that, but the problem is that it is at the expense of all
his victims, the victims that pile up behind him.

The thing about Jamie is that he wants to be a hero, and to go down in history as a doer of heroic deeds, and to have ballads sung about him for doing something other than fucking his sister... yet he STILL has no real idea what makes the difference between a thug who wins fights and an actual hero! He's spent his whole life fighting whoever his father or sister or idiot king told him to fight, and never once fighting for something that's right. Because like I said, he has no real conception of right and wrong.

Sure, he's doing the right thing now, but he's acting more out of despair than righteousness. But he still wants to be a hero, and IMHO has no more understanding of what makes a hero than he ever did.

The problem is, in a warrior sense, he can never be a hero because he is no longer the great swordsman he once was. The trailer shows a brief glimpse of him in a battle but, and as much as this pains me, he won't go down in a heroic fight where he's battling a dozen men. If he dies, it'll be because he is maimed and no longer a top-tier soldier.

We'll see. Personally, Jaime is the last interesting character for me on the show. I'm curious to see how they finish him. I know Martin considers him a favorite, so maybe he'll have his moment to shine, but it will never be as sweet as Jamie from seasons 1-3. I honestly believe that he lost his touch after season 3. I understand it was supposed to initiate his character arc, but I haven't been entirely impressed with the way it's portrayed on the show. Given the trend of the past few seasons, I just don't have much faith anymore. It will be an interesting watch, but certainly not the glory we saw in the past. Hopefully I'm wrong!
