There Must Always Be a Stark at Winterfell

So, of course this hasn't always been the case, since there's about 2 years (assuming each season is approximately a year) in between when Bran and Rickon leave and Sansa returns.

But it's an interesting premise, because, assuming that Winterfell doesn't fall in Season 8, will there be a Stark there in the years to come? Jon's descendants will all be Snows or Targaryens, and Sansa's and Arya's will be whatever name of whomever they eventually marry (assuming they marry). And who knows what's going on with Bran, either physically or emotionally. So who's left to carry on the name?

I'm wondering if this is a portent that Winterfell will actually fall...

Jon will fall in the final battle with the White Walkers and will kill dozens of them like a boss
Arya is on a revenge and death trip...she wont survive but will have a spectacular final act
Bran will become a tree pretty soon
Not really marriage material but i love the kid...

Sansa will be the final Stark at Winterfell, she will be a fine Wardeness and rule the North country in a very fair but heavy handed manner
She will not remarry, so she will be the last of the Starks

This is my guess...

Maybe. I've gotten the feeling that the saying isn't just familial pride though -- that it might actually mean something in regards to the structural integrity of the castle or the surrounding area. It's not evident in the show, but in the books, when Bran and Rickon leave, the weather becomes particularly bad -- Stannis marches on the castle, expecting a short uneventful trip, but runs into a massive snowstorm that no one expected. It could just be a coincidence. Or it could mean that the presence of a Stark is truly necessary at all times at the castle to safeguard against...something.

Yes, I do recall some theory about this on one of the GOT sites...maybe theres something to it

I just like the idea of the old houses all falling (though the Starks ARE my favorites)

There must always be a Stark at Winterfell, so it was fated that Jon and Sansa would retake Winterfell before too many seasons elapsed. That was a given, the only question was how, and yes - they did make it interesting!

And there will always be Starks at Winterfell, that's also a given. It's been established that if a woman is the only survivor of an important line her children will bear her family name and the family inheritance rather than their father's, so IMHO Sansa will end the show as the Lady of the North, as Jon will either be dead or king of Westeros.

She'll marry again, she'll have children, and her future husband already has my sympathies.
