Question about the Dragons

I need a bit of clarification. I haven't read the books so the answer to my question might be there. What I know I've picked up from the show and what I've read here.

My understanding the only ones the dragons will look to are those with Targaryen ancestry. Drogon let Jon pet him as I read somewhere he recognized that in Jon. If so in the last scene of S7E7 where the dragon was destroying the wall, the Night King was riding him. Does that mean the NK has some Targaryen blood? If so that does mean he is also the heir to the Iron Throne?

It's a wild thought I know.

I'm pretty well-versed on both the books and the show and I don't recall anything that would indicate the Night King having Targaryen blood. Also, the Iron Throne is also only about 300 years old and Targs were not in Westeros prior to that. The Night King is probably thousands of years old. Best guess is that he is able to control the resurrected dragon the same way he controls the resurrected dead of other species.

All that said, anything is possible...
