Fucking soap opera. Last episode was predictable as fuck. Once they killed the dragon my first thought was ok now they will have to fight a bone dragon.
I was praying for Jon to die because that would bring some kind of unpredictability and realism and chaos to the episode and how the series will continue, but no it's all fucking fan service from now on that GRR is gone.
But that wasn't the issue, the issue is directing and presentation, all too average and predictable as though they want to end the series as quick as possible.
I agree something has changed in the show. Although killing off one of her Dragons counts as the death of a major character. But ya, John should have died in that water. Although his long lost uncle died saving him by giving him his horse at the end.
Jon can't die because the Lord of the Light wants him alive which is why Melisandre was able to resurrect him.
There's a theory that the show changed once Brann became the Three Eyed Raven and we're seeing things through his mind now. Events happen at a much quicker pace now. I have faith that the change is on purpose for some reason.
He could've turned into an undead like his uncle. That would have bring a nice spin to the series but alas the writers are useless talentless shitholes.
What would be the point story-wise in making the rightful heir to the throne a white walker? They could've just let him stay the illegitimate son of Ned Stark for that. I just want to know if he's going to marry his aunt. Ewww!
People die or turn undead, that's what the GoT was all about. Story-wise? Stories are for fairy-tales. I thought we're watching GoT for the death count. Fuck Jon Snow, he turned into a Jesus of some sort, also when I look into his eyes... I don't see a leader, I see a follower - miscast.
If you're watching for the death count alone you're missing the point. The Walking Dead is a show thats only all about the shock value death count. And it sucks. It has since season 2.
Never seen it, I heard about the deaths though, senseless shock value deaths are not my thing.
I like how GoT sees good and evil, how heroism gets punished as well as villainy does... or isn't - i.e. chaotic and indifferent. How there's no true catharsis as in real life other bad men simply take place of other bad men and it goes on and on. I probably still watch the series because of this lord of light, I want to know who the fuck he is and what he wants. GRR knows, but now that he's not at the helm it should be something stupid and servile to the fans thanks to the naive minds of the hack writers and greedy execs.
He isn't miscast. He himself said on many occasions that he didn't want to be the leader, but it was thrust upon him and he's doing his best at it. He probably isn't a great leader in some instances, but he was able to unite all the houses of the north and that took real leadership skills.
Yeah Jon is a 'leader' that shoulnt be-agree with that
But he is a decent person, brave and heroic in battles and selfless in terms of 'lording' it over on other people
I feel like he would be the ideal king and the casting was perfect imo
His leadership skills feel forced by the writers, I sense an unintended conflict in here, it's that girl who united the landless bums and Jon together. Like I said he has the stare of a servant, but then on the other hand those who don't want to rule should rule as they will not be so easily corrupted by power.
I think the casting was perfect
I never heard of Harrington prior to this show but he plays the part EXACTLY like novel Jon
Young, kinda dumb and uncertain about things but a real ass-kicker when things look bad, loyal to friends, honest etc
He fills the Greek 'tragic/flawed hero' role perfectly
Like this actor and the performance
Haven't read the books, no time, far down on my reading list, but I wish I did, I love the idea of mute undead Catelyn Stark, such a badass tragic character. I mean right now I don't have a fave character anymore how did that happened right? Well the cryptic lil finger maybe but he gets so little screen time.
Harrington nails this role...and dont bother reading the books just yet...they are great but the guy that writes them is an old chubby guy that probably wont finish them...sad but true
90 percent nonfiction. I prefer to watch fiction rather than read it. You don't want to know what I read now. My fave fiction books are do androids dream of electric sheep and roadside picnic. I'm into existential, dystopic sci-fi.
Aside from the whole resurrection bit, it was clear after Battle of the Bastards that Jon is being kept alive by divine intervention.
Something happened to Bran that hasn't been revealed yet. Remember a couple times he was warned not to stay too long when he first started going into the past.
What is happening is the pay off... we have waited years fucking years & now it is kinda fan service... Like waiting for the dragons to grow big.
It is very predictable but that isn't so bad... not as bad as Glen hiding under a fucking bin lol!
Shit I am potty mouthing again.
Jon is bullet prof at the moment but i like that... As the show goes on some shit has to happen like lil finger will die & Jamie will kill Cersy or Aya will.
Lil finger is an intriguing character and very fun to watch. I kind of want him to win because he's so good at shaping chaos, I want to see him on the iron throne, have his little rule then die from butt cancer or choke on a pea - roll credits.
I'm not sure what's entertaining about just continuous tragedy, chaos and bleakness if there's no kind of payoff...I mean, we've already been through season after season of good guys always losing and major character after major character biting the dust..Most of them have lost their entire families...some families no longer even exist. Most everyone has wandered their respective deserts and have the scars to prove it.
After all this time how is it even predictable to have some things fall into place for a change..?
Don't worry...this is GOT...there's still plenty of death coming for you to enjoy..they're not all going to come out of this alive ... And if they killed everyone off NOW what would anyone want to keep watching for?
And whatever is wrong with a little fan service anyway? Should everything always have to be the opposite of what a fan wants? Is misery the only thing that seems real to some people anymore?
I've liked this season..It has been entertaining..
No, it's not perfect...it has been rushed and some things I imagined to be fan fantasies have come to pass. But that's ok...it's kind of cathartic..Some of it even makes much sense in the grand scheme of things.
There have been logic flaws, time jumps that weren't made clear, its been a bit rushed and there has been fan service but I agree, why not at this point? They have only a certain amount of episodes left to air which is very costly to produce and no source material to draw from anymore. Even though for instance, there were a bunch of plans that would have been better than the one they decided on to capture a wight, anything else would have drawn out the story. Despite the flaws, its still one of the best shows on TV and an all around great experience. Calling it shit is not only a massive overstatement, its just wrong.
Whoa one of the best? Just because of the budget? I don't think so. It was one of the best but now be careful of what you're saying, we all wish for it to be that way yadda yadda but I won't be part of this collective denial.
Hi:) and nice to 'meet' you!
Denial of what Estocade?
This is my favorite show And yes...ive seen BB, The Wire,Sopranos etc ...all fabulous stories/acting etc...
Im really curious about what you mean by 'collective denial...' Because honestly, a few dumb moments (sandsnakes lol) aside i think this show is best ever -please kindly elaborate Esto...
"I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes. It's corrosive, like acid. You got a demon, little man. And I don't like your face. It makes me wanna do things to it"......... that's from my fave show. We all have our favorites and it's all very nice. By collective denial I meant blind fanboyism but it's not that simple, some people are simply easily entertained that's all.
True Detective right??
Another great show me and mine enjoyed-totally agree i loved S1...S2was ok imo...
Well in terms of fanboy-ism i should just plead guilty now (big comic book/star wars/heavy metal music/exploitaton drive-in movie fan here...) and i think its all in good fun!
But srsly not trying to be a pest but i dont understand your thoughts that GOT is simple or easy entertainment...weve seen heroic guys bite the dust and former baddies become fan favorites...i dont think the 'easily entertained' as you put it are really that passionate about this show...which is clearly about WAY more than hitting each other with axes...
I agree Shogunofyonkers... nothing about this show is 'easy'!! It's not even easy keeping track of the characters. I do feel that this season has been rushed and I don't like all the convenient twists which don't make sense (such as the cave with the drawings of the wights, Benjen Stark appearing at just the right moment etc) but I still think this is the best, most complex, shocking and exciting show I've ever seen... Most of the complaints seem to be that we've not had another Red Wedding style character cull but as already said, sooner or later, things need to start working out one way or another!
We don't want just death now is it, we want consequences, Jon went to his death he should've not come back in one piece, but it was all just a ploy to make that undead dragon to have a dragon brawl in the end of the season or the next one.
I suppose you mean by blind fanboyism that you are suggesting that other people are selective in what they want to see and you are above that kind of thing.
This is a show where a woman can conveniently spit out a spirit assassin from her vagina, a man can be brought back to life 7 times, dragons fly and spit fire, men and women can rise from the dead and become the undead, a woman can walk through fire unscathed and a young girl can take the faces of her enemies and physically become that person.
And you're worried because Jon Snow didn't die... even if it makes way too much sense for the plot if he is alive?
Have you ever heard of Chekhov's Gun? There's so many details in GOT that have been hinted at for 7 years that need to come to fruition..or they never should have been introduced at all.
That's what wouldn't have made any sense.
You like the randomness of it all...that the good aren't rewarded and may even suffer fro their goodness and the bad may only benefit from their evil...and nobody ever gets what they deserve.
But to some of us...it still is kind of nice when people do get what they deserve...Sometimes.
And karma really is a bitch. Karma can be entertaining.
Oh stop your passive aggressive bullshit I'm not suggesting anything, I'm saying that you don't select what you see, I'm saying you select what is on, it's either a wall, a painting or whatever on tv. GoT is crazy but steady, now it lost its finesse, but if I'm in minority here then so be it.
I'm down with magic, no pressure.
What plot? Have you seen into the future, have you read the finished script? What are you talking about? Chekhov's Gun? Sorry don't know. Prophesies and all that? What about the end of the world prophesy? Still here. Now we got internet and drones. What's next...
I believe in karma but it exists and functions only in the minds of men, it is not divine or anything like that. You can... it is possible to bend consequences but Jon is of average intelligence at best, good swordsman, seen shit, knows more that people in the south, that's it.
*apologize for delete
My wonderful/annoying fam is
over here and im currently 'juggling' dinner prep and campfire...my bad guys... Not certain that poster Bohemianroxie was being passive aggressive and bullshitting as you said but i do question why you watch GOT as you seem to despise it and 'fanboys' of the show...not really my beeswax but you do seem an odd/intersting one Esto...anyway good talk Esto (im very friendly and not taking dirty punches here...your just off beat i guess...and i like that!)
I guess saying what I think is passive aggressive to some ..Maybe a bit snarky is a better term as I felt what seemed a measure of hostility and condescension in some of estocades post and responded accordingly.
Anyway...it's all subjective. People do see what they want to see and people are entertained by different things. I really don't care if what someone likes is different than what I like. But sometimes it's fun to understand why without making it a pissing contest.
No pissing contest here - rest assured Boh!!
I like the varied mix of posters and opinions i encounter on this site above a bunch of other places ive been..i wind up in a really fun 'pissing contest ' here every few days and most posters are fun/interesting even when we disagree
Pleased to meet 'ya btw:)
I don't hate season 7, but the world seems empty. It doesn't feel large scale. Episode 2 was also full of contrived plot resolutions. My BIGGEST complaint is the show re-centering it's villain to be Cersie instead of White Walkers. I'm almost certain that's not how it's going down in the books. The season is frustrating but i don't flat out hate it either. But it's a bad sign for season 8
Ep 2 plot contrivances how Madam?
Also i think dummy Cersei is the villain focus now because viewers see the bigger picture but shes still 'playing with chess pcs...'
She probably always will miss the forest for the trees because shes a wealthy/noble KL gal and somewhat sheltered...
Thoughts Madam..?
Ha! Fair enough
Some of the travel/time jumps are def abrupt lol
It takes me an hour and a half to get to work every morning so yeah...thousands of miles by the next scene grinds my gears too!
I still love it, but I agree it's predictable. Would love a random death of a major character out of nowhere for reasons that seem like the character would be able to beat, just to shock us again.
