yeah you're right, I noticed the same thing. But as you also stated it's a great movie though. Definitely one of my favorite gay romantic movies of all time right now.

I didn't notice about the can, but I saw the big stencil pops out of nowhere.

Keep in mind it is illegal to tag buildings , so he would not carry that stuff in his hand.
And there is a split second when you can see how he reaches behind his back and takes out a can , so mystery solved.

By the way , it kinda threw me more that Zach's Tshirt in the shots when he drives , never match with what he wears in the previous scenes or the ones after that.
Very quick wardrobe changes.

I think this is more a case of very bad editing. It seems like the scenes have been put together incorrectly. If they were put together in the correct order, so the t-shirts actually were consistant, then the flow of the film would be a bit different, scenes would be in a different order & maybe also have a different meaning.

Little plot holes: The first evening of Zach and Shaun's romantic encounter, Zach sees Shaun thumbing through his art portfolio and says, "Whoa, no one looks at that" and tries to grab it away. Why did he bring it with him into Shaun's house in the first place if he didn't want anyone to see it?

Gabe suddenly shows up while Shaun and Zach are together in Shaun's bedroom and Zach makes a fast getaway behind Gabe's back, but surely Gabe must have seen Zach's car in the driveway. I think Gabe must know a lot more about Shaun and Zach's relationship than he lets on and is not "oblivious" to it as Ross Thomas (Gabe) suggests in the interview.

Zach discovers on his voicemail that his art portfolio had been sent to the Cal Arts Academy (by Shaun, of course) but how did Shaun get a hold of Zach's portfolio? Did he steal it somehow?

In their breakup scene in Zach's car, both Shaun and Zach abruptly say rather hurtful things to each other, a little hard to accept considering that only a few days before their relationship was pretty warm and cozy.

Actually, these things are to move the story along; I like this picture a lot and really wouldn't want to change a frame; but a little more running time might have helped smooth out some of these points.

There's a FanFic over on fanfiction.net called "Show, Not Tell". The author fills in a lot of the "plot holes" and flushes out the story a little better than the movie was able to. It's mature in content and looks like a long read, but is totally worth it. It's still a work in progress, but I'd read it and then watch the movie again. For me it was an entirely new movie.

The scene being referred to is of Zach skateboarding around the town during the opening credits, I assume. It is made up of several shots, probably taken at different times. If you watch Zach throughout this section, you see that his shirt is buttoned in some shots and unbuttoned, exposing his undershirt in others. I don't believe that tight continuity was necessarily intended here but more to provide an initial sketch of Zach and inform us that he is central character of the film.

Somebody check me on this, but I believe in the bedroom scene just after Gabe bursts in and is running up the stairs, Shaun and Zach are scrambling to get some clothes on. In one shot when Zach is in his shorts and his back is to the camera, you can see the letters WRIGHT (Trevor's last name) tattooed across his back just above his waistband. If so, this should have been caught by the film editor and should appear in the IMDb "Goof" section. You need a good definition TV to discern it but I'm pretty sure it's there.
