AfterElton 100 Greatest Gay Movies poll

Shelter has just been voted number one, beating Brokeback Mountain (2005) into second place.

I love both films, Shelter definitely has the feelgood factor, but I am not sure if I agree that it is better than the number two movie. What do you all think, a worthy winner?

I love both of these films too but if I'm being honest I would place Brokeback Mountain at one and Shelter at 2. I do think they are deserving of the top 2 slots, although wouldn't have complained if Maurice was up there as it's my favourite film.

Though Brokeback Mountain is obviously the better film, I totally understand Shelter's popularity. It's nice to see a a gay themed film that gives you a warm feeling instead of leaving you depressed. Shelter is a beautiful little film. Uplifting and rare.

But Brokeback Mountain will always be a force of nature. A masterpiece.

Shelter is popular with a lot of people. It may not be fair to compare the two movies. Shelter accomplished a lot without the kind of resources and immense creative talent that BBM had. BBM has so many things going for it - the direction, the cast, the story, etc. Perhaps another question might be how does a movie like Shelter with such limited budget achieve this kind of success and popularity.
