The kissing in the movie was pretty bad...

Note that this is just my opinion and wanted to share it with all of you, so please do not get mad, I respect everyone else's opinions.

So in the movie "Shelter" I thought the kissing was done a bit poorly, especially the sex scene to be honest. It looked like they were just bird pecking each others mouths, and in the sex scene they were just rolling around on top of each other? I have seen other gay films that do a much better job at preforming these type of scenes (regardless if they're both straight actors) like the movie "Free fall" (2013) (I recommend that you watch this movie, it is good!).

What do you think? Please don't get me wrong. This film is one of the best I've ever watched, and because of watching it, it has inspired me to watch other gay movies (Such as Beautiful thing [my favorite one of all!]). The plot on a sidenote was very well and I loved the soundtrack. Though I just wanted to point this out to see if anyone else thought the same?

I don't know but as I see it maybe the younger guy in the film is just nervous(?) because it was his first sexual encounter with a guy.

I wish I could remember which director said it, that the only way for actors to get a kissing scene to look natural is to practice kissing each other about 100 times.
I imagine that another way to make it look natural is if both were really into kissing each other, and that is probably a rare thing on a movie set, no matter who is playing the parts.
Perhaps in Free Fall, the director was able to help the performers construct a scene using the director's particular methods where the kissing looked more natural. I haven't seen that one. But sounds like you enjoyed it, so I'll take a look.

I didn't have a problem with the kissing in this. Their first kiss on the sun lounger was nice. It was restrained and quite tender as they were probably both a bit apprehensive. I like the way that they just fell asleep right there, fully clothed. The next kiss is when Zach turns up at Shaun's house and lunges at him in the doorway. Much more urgent and passionate. This and the bed scene that followed was nicely done too without resorting to being too graphic, though the editing was quite choppy to give it some energy. None of these scenes were as good as the embrace in front of the grill though.

Well, when I saw the movie first, I never really realize that, I mean, I was focusing to the whole story. But, after I watched maybe a hundred time, I have to agree that the kissing scene (almost all of it) made somewhat poorly (compare to other gay theme movies).

And, hell yeah, Freier Fall (2013) kissing scenes is really HOT. Another awesome kissing scene is Jack & Ennis kisses.

Definitely agree. The movie is very sweet and Shaun is so hot but there's no chemistry. Maybe it's because of the script or director, but still, there's no obvious chemistry that could convince me that they are in love.
