Why do you think Sarah was instantly attracted to Chuck?

She admitted in season 3 that she basically was attracted to him from the first ep on. I think the key factor was Chuck's genuineness. Chuck was such an open person. I mean he never really tried to hide how he felt about Sarah and he wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to his emotions with regards to almost everything. Given that Sarah was so used to lying and deception while in the CIA and before that with her father, it was difficult for her to deal with someone who was someone who was so open and genuine to her. I mean Chuck basically opened up his entire group of family and friends to her. The key thing you can see is in the individual scenes between them when Chuck would admit how he felt about her, what his hopes and dreams were etc... and you could tell that Sarah could barely hold it together because she was not used to dealing with that level of openness and honesty.

I love how the topic is a question and you dropped an absolutely perfect answer. Im just here to add to the post count. Thumbs up!

Umm...why did you ask the question? Because your answer is about as dead on as can be. I really can't add anything to your reasoning.

Well it was just my POV. I figured if anyone disagreed or wanted to elaborate further on it, they could reply.

It's a great answer. I would only add Chuck was the type of person Sarah never ran into before. She thought she was in love with Bryce but he treated her like a 'convenience', for lack of a better word. Chuck managed to fall for the person behind Agent Walker and wanted to make that person happy. And Sarah, like you said, fell for that honest, heart-on-the-sleeve, goofy optimist who really wanted to help people like she did.

Chuck was everything the young Sarah was looking for and though the adult Sarah thought she had buried that part of her he slowly brought it to the surface. Theirs was a romance of fate.

I am still watching this show having just discovered it earlier this month and I'm on the beginning of Season 4 so no spoilers please. I love this show. Is not as cheesy as it could be and has an emotional depth and authenticity AND consistency to the characters that surprised me, while still managing to be funny and entertaining.

I just wanted to toss my hat in the ring and say "yes" to the op. You nailed it. I love the way that they developed Chuck and Sarah's relationship in this show. The fact that she was instantly attracted to him and began to admire more and more over time, being exposed to his strengths and his weaknesses. And she always judged him for who he was as a person and not as a spy, which is important. I was glad that they had her say that was when she was attracted to him because that is exactly what I FELT in the beginning. Everything else was her dealing with her past, emotions, etc.

Awesome, S3 was probably my favorite. I am marathoning through the series and just started S4. Hope you're liking it as much as I do. This will be the 2nd run through the series for me aside from watching it religiously when it originally aired. An awesome plus I didn't even recognize until this marathon was how much Y:The Last Man stuff Chuck has laying around his room. I wonder if it's an ode to the comic series or Brian Vaughan.

Cheers!

For the most part you answered your own question, and answered it well. Sarah had simply never met anyone like Chuck before, and she liked what she saw.

When Sarah walked into the Buy More in the Pilot, she was convinced that she was after a criminal that the treacherous (she and everyone thought) Bryce Larkin was in cahoots with. But Chuck simply didn't act the part of a criminal specializing in stolen government secrets. He was nice, normal, funny ... and he went out of his way to make things better for the poor ballerina girl whose slack-witted dad pooched the ballet recital.

Right away our girl knew something was up.

Later on, when they make a date, she's on the phone with Langston Graham, and she literally says "I don't know about this guy"... as in 'this guy doesn't give out the information smuggler vibe'.

Poor Sarah had spent her whole life to this point dealing with spies and criminals. No real relationships, no real boyfriends, and nobody who truly knew her and loved her.

Sarah Walker the spy was ready for anything -- except for meeting a genuine, caring man. Once she met one, her cold-blooded spy/ ice queen identity collapsed like a house of cards.

@F6Pilot

using the term "house of cards" is PERFECT. everything she had ever known was just that, nothing "real".

like you said her father/upbringing was lies, the CIA, well that IS what they do.

and Chuck had everything she always wanted, stability, family, true love--no one wanting anything from her but HER. Chuck cared about her from the start, he worried about her always...like the first time they went out, he yelled her name when Casey was about to run over her, and telling her to drive safe, he was always in a caring mode FOR her.

Bryce was her partner, and being alone and together a lot,m each one depending on the other for their lives, pretending to be a couple, that would do a lot to bring them to intimacy for cover, but no real relationship, though i do believe she "loved" Bryce, but was not IN love with him.

and she knew both Bryce and Shaw AFTER they were spies, Chuck she knew before he had any training and had NOT killed anyone, she knew that THAT would change a person, and she didn't want to see that happen to him.

i do love this show, and i am glad i found it!

there is so much underlying it, that every time you re watch it, there is something more to gather......
