The Next Revival?

So we've had 24, heroes, x files and prison break are coming back plus plenty more...

Ever since the show ended there has been speculation of a comeback in the form of a limited series / movie and all the cast when questioned have always said that if the powers that be greenlight it then they'd be in.

Now would seem to be the perfect opportunity, Yvonne's show Astronaut's Wives Club has not been renewed for a second season and it was just announced yesterday that Zacharay's Heroes Reborn would not be returning.

For me that seems like it's the perfect time to bring this show back...or am I dreaming!?

Unfortunately (for us, not him), Adam Baldwin's TNT show The Last Ship is doing very well. Plus you have to make sure Yvonne's calendar stays clear so she can become Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel).

I think a one-off movie would satisfy most fans.

true but the last ship is only 13 episodes so would leave plenty of time in his schedule

also as much as i'd love to see yvonne as captain marvel i just don't think it is going to happen

a movie would be good, but i'd love a 13 episode series or two and nbc did it with heroes which had a cult fan base so i don't see any reason why they wouldn't try the same with chuck

guess we'll have to wait and see!

I don't think a 13-ep series would do well. They tried with Heroes, which had a much larger fanbase, even if seasons 2-4 on it stunk. The ratings dropped off fast after the first few episodes. And NBC is definitely on the rise again thanks to The Blacklist, Blindspot, and the Chicago procedural franchise.

As for Yvonne, at this point unless there's a wildcard character that hasn't been mentioned yet, it's down to her, Katee Sackhoff, and Emily Blunt for the role. And Sackhoff would have been announced long ago if they were going to use her. Blunt would be awesome but they could get Yvonne for less money and get her to commit to the six-film deal all Marvel superhero actors seem to be getting.

And my guess would be both Emily and Yvonne will make their way into the Marvel universe somehow. It's simply a matter of who gets the biggest Marvel role since Iron Man.

How does Heroes have a bigger fanbase? Chuck ran 5 seasons to Heroes 4 and pushed out 91 episodes to Heroes 76. To me, that sounds like Chuck was the more popular show. And, yes, while the Heroes reboot didn't do so well, the X-Files reboot is tearing up the ratings on Fox. I don't think a full reboot would ever happen, but a 6 to 10 episode mini-series on Netflix is right up their ally.

Heroes' average viewership was 13.86M, 11.46M, 7.61M, and 6.54M viewers during its original four-season run. Chuck never averaged above 10M in any of its seasons and was under 6M for the final three seasons. Those numbers might get you renewed now, but they didn't back at the time. Never knowing when (or even if) it would be renewed never helped, nor did it being paired up against Heroes' fall off the cliff help its chances.

And now look at these shows that have tried revivals and failed. Heroes, Arrested Development, The X-Files. Only 24's revival had any modicum of success, and ironically a big reason for that was Yvonne.

I don't see a network risking it on a show that had fewer viewers than any of those other shows. A one-off movie, maybe. But not a full-on series.

The Heroes reboot/revival tanked in the ratings because 1. It sucked 2. Barely any of the cast returned. Jack Coleman was the only cast member to return as a series regular, with a few others coming back for a few guest spots. Not only that, but the writing was awful and the new cast was forgettable. They even managed to make Zachary Levi, who was obviously terrific on Chuck, terrible by giving him an awful plot.

If Chuck came back for a short season with Chuck, Sarah, and Casey (and hopefully the rest) all back I think it'd get a pretty good audience on an outlet like Netflix. Might need to wait more years though, as Chuck ended just 4 years ago.

Someone needs to make it so & QUICKLY!!!

I saw an interview recently and he said the show having a full on return for a season isnt going to happen but he would love for a online mini series or a movie.

reply

Last I read months ago, was if there were to be a movie, he wanted to wait at least after enough time has passed to where basically all countries got the chance to catch up (since some shows air seasons behind in other countries)

reply

Yeah, but that was 4 years ago he said that. I wish Netflix would do it. It's unlike any of their other series and would be great!
