I did. For many reasons but somehow I am unable to recall exact episodes/instances. Looking to see if someone else felt the same and if they would be willing to share their experiences of instances. Thanks.
I think it comes down to the common curse of characters not having the knowledge of the show's central secret. Ellie was the last one to find out about Chuck's spy life. So she was on the outside, looking in for a long time. Her role really didn't extend much beyond being an older sister to Chuck for a long time. I didn't find her irritating. Her relationship with Chuck was pretty sweet. However, she didn't have much character development in the first couple of seasons.
I don't think she was irritating at all. She was sweet and kind for the most part. She cared a great deal for Chuck, and even told Sarah how good she and Chuck are together. The characters who annoyed me were Lester and Jeff (pre-maturation).
_______ The sun is shining... but the ice is slippery.
She was irritating as heck until she learned she had to quit ordering her younger brother around according to her own wishes.
That wasn't the only issue, though. She was written as one of those women who, the same as Skylar White, think it's their right to order everyone around them to stop everything in their lives and stand there while "we're gonna have a talk about this." Terrorists blowing up the White House? Nah, we're gonna have a talk. A nuclear bomb set to go off in the middle of NYC in twenty minutes? Oh hell no, "We're gonna have a talk, NOW!"
The men or women whose time is being imposed on have every right to push past them and say, "Sweetie I'm sorry but we'll have to talk about this two days from now. I'm saving lives."
And yet, for some reason, the writers think they're writing a "strong woman" whom everyone will respect for this demanding, self-centered, self-righteous behavior.
Always feel free to attack someone as a substitute for thinking.
No wonder Ellie was so over protective of Chuck. First their mother takes off when Chuck was a small kid, then their father takes off when Chuck was 13 years old. She practically ended up having to be both a mother and father for Chuck.
you mean its inconsiderate to NEED to talk about your brother and his behavior of playing video games and being irresponsible? You have to remember that is what Ellie believes until at LEAST the end of season 3. HELL. Before that everything she ever does is in support of Chuck to try and get him to move forward but she has no idea of his secret life.
So yes it looks irritating, but you have to remember to look at it from the reality of the character. Season 3? She thought she was protecting Chuck from a bad spy (Casey) who was sent out to kill her father.
Ellie is irritating but that is because she is written to be a surrogate mother to Chuck given that their parents basically abandoned them as children and she was told to take care of him always. The problem is that Ellie never learned how to back off once Chuck became an adult and she loves her brother and wants to see him reach his potential. So of course she is going to come across as a mother that nags her son a lot of the time, when I don't think she would truly want to be that.
One thing that is clear to me is that she loves her brother a lot. She loved Awesome a lot but at times would "mother" him as well and that was annoying as well.
Bottom line, Ellie never learned how to truly have "fun". She was "mothering" so much of her life that she never really learned how to be a young person and just enjoy the moment or enjoy life. She felt a need to "control" because "control" was given her by her father at a young age.
But yes, from a viewer perspective, even knowing that was purposeful, it was still at times hard to watch her be so annoying (just like Morgan...who I found to be really pathetic because he relied so much on Chuck for everything and had NO BOUNDARIES!). I was actually glad that in later seasons they sort of had Chuck manage to get away from the cling-on Morgan...but you notice Morgan then attached himself to Casey. LOL!
