Similar Series?

The music may not be there, but I found Leverage to be a great series. It's available on Netflix and repeats are on Ion television during some Sundays of the year. It's a show about an ex-insurance investigator (Timothy Hutton) who is brought in to lead a group of cons with special skills to help out those people screwed over by big companies or the government.

If I remember, the pilot episode is free on iTunes to download. If you like that ep, you'll like the show.

Leverage was a good fill, but there were four other shows since Chuck ended that were similar that only went for one season each. Two can be streamed on Netflix and two have episodes for sale on Amazon. First the Netflix offerings:

There was a show called The Finder. It is actually 14 episodes since it had a backdoor pilot that was a Bones episode in season 6 of Bones. The male lead has the unique skill to find anything. He has a strong female lead, a US Marshal (played by Chuck alum Mercedes Masohn). He has a loyal sidekick played by another Chuck alum Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP). Also the backdoor pilot included one Mini Anden playing a treasure-hunter version of...well Carina. I liked all of this except the last two or three episodes, it got sloppy.

Next on Netflix is a show called Limitless. In this one the structure is very Chuck-like and has embedded humor. The unique guy can take pill and become a genius. He works out of an FBI office where the head boss-lady is a redhead and he works with a male and a female agent team. The female agent and lead is played by Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter). Didn't get renewed but did pull a full 22 episodes.

The next two are not streaming (that I know of) but episodes can be bought on Amazon. The first is a show called Intelligence. The unique guy has a genetic trait that allows an implant that essentially makes his brain a networked computer, think intersect on all the time. He works for a govt agency whose head boss-lady is a redhead (Marge Helgenberger). He is assigned a female Secret Service agent as bodyguard (she's attractive, but not in Yvonne's league). He is supported by a team of scientists and agents one of whom is Bonita Friedricy's real life husband (John Billingsley). This has 13 episodes.

Finally, on Amazon is a show called Forever starring Ioan Gruffudd (I'd watch anything he's in). His unique thing is that he's immortal hiding out as a medical examiner in NY. He works for a police precinct headed by a black woman and works with teams of cops including the female lead and eventual love interest played by Alana de la Garza. This went for 22 episodes.

While limited in number of total episodes these four would give hours of good viewing IMHO. Try the Netflix content first. I DVR'd the ones for sale on Amazon, but if you like Chuck-like stuff those two are good as well.

Now & Again

Now & Again is a great show that lasted 1 season. It just came out on DVD.

I'd also add Sci Fi's The Invisible Man to this list. It's about a professional thief who is good deep down inside who upon his arrest for a third strike felony and facing life in prison without parole agrees to take part in a government experiment lead by his brother in which a synthetic gland is surgically implanted in his brain which allows him to turn invisible but has a narcotic effect upon him. He then works for a covert government agency as a spy with the hopes that eventually either the side effects can be reversed or that the gland can be safely removed. It lasted 2 seasons before it was canceled.
