Her life wasn't "that" bad

* They lived in a rent free apartment and got free money. They had cable, food and a 'microwave oven' (lol). Their phone and heating bill was also subsidized. This type of free living doesn't exist anymore. Welfare requires "work" since Clinton and public housing is scarce to come by.

* She had an opportunity to go to an alternate school for her Dyslexia with a kind and supportive teacher.

* Her rapist father had left the house. She no longer was under threat of SA.

* Her abusive Mother (who was mentally ill) only bothered her when they were together at night. Precious was out for most of the day. Mary also didn't attack her every night, just so sometimes.
