Love this film but can understand why people dislike it

You have to have a good knowledge of modern Italian culture and an interest in it to truly appreciate this film. One thing that would help bring this to a bigger audience would have been a narrator, similar to the one used in the Brazilian film Elite Squad, but personally I loved it how it was.. it does get better on repeated viewings too

I don't know a thing about Italian culture, much less Neapolitan; but I enjoyed Gomorrah. I think it was just too slow for some people. People these days expect every scene to have some pay-off; either to wrap things up, or to lead directly into something else. This just isn't that kind of film. It wanders a little, which is okay with me.

This was a very good watch, although flawed. I felt that it could have been a great film, maybe a masterpiece, but it just didn't quite gel into one. That said, it had many great individual elements to it and It's a film that needed to be made.

It's pretty gritty!

Hey, that rhymes!

Yea a narrator or even some text at the start of the film (the text we were given at the end of the film) to explain a little, or even just mention the camorra would have made this a better watch for me

The lovefilm description wasnt so great either, and it took a google about the camorra after the film had finished for me to "get" some of the scenes and story

Will watch it again in a couple of weeks.

They should have concentrated on only one story and made it shorter maybe only half as long.

I don' think this has anything to do with you not understanding Italian culture or whatever, but more with the fact if you appreciate and are used slow movies or not or if you are used to films with "no real plot".

I love this film, but I can see why some think it's to slow or to long. Or to boring, especially if you are used to Mafia films such as Goodfellas, Godfather or Sopranos,

I think people like a more traditional story, but I feel like it all came together in the end. You really have to be on top of what's happening and the fact that most people watch this with subtitles doesn't help. I gave it an eight.

I think it has to do with the fact that people have grown accustomed to mafia movies being "badass" and romanticizing the mob in many ways. So a more real and crude look at it might seem boring and uninteresting.

It's not a big, glamorous production like The Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas or Scarface. Much more akin to a Neapolitan City of God.🐭
