Why do so many of Italians wear sleeveless shirts?

It seemed as though most of the guys wore sleeveless shirts. Is the the fashion for Italian males today?

It's to accentuate their hairy shoulders/back and arm flab.

The same reason Indians wear windbreakers - They think it makes them look cool.
