Why couldn't SOAPNet pick up Swingtown?

Couldn't they buy the rights from CBS if CBS was no longer willing and/or interested?

It is my honest belief that CBS sabotaged "Swingtown" from being picked up for any other network, be it broadcast or cable. It would have had a huge chance if CBS didn't pay everybody so much, rendering other stations unable to meet the demands which CBS dishes out. Also, for five months they could have let it go when Bravo picked up the re-airing rights to the first season, but they chose to hang on to it until the contracts were finished with (1/1/09). Don't you think if you were an actor and waited five months with no answer it would make you just a little bit antsy? It took Jack Davenport until December to pick another role second in line to "Swingtown." Same with Brittany Robertson.

CBS knew what they were doing. They didn't want anybody else to have the show. It hurt their conservative feelings so much that they chose to be vindictive of it. They still won't tell us officially. Look how fast they let go of fan favorite "Moonlight." Almost as soon as it aired the season finale, it was cancelled to the point CBS tore it out of their schedule for the following week in repeats.

Sure, there could have been Showtime, FX, SOAPNet, Bravo, etc. CBS would never allow that!

Let's face it. CBS is an old person's station, highly conservative where parents whine about their children seeing any little bit of flesh but allows them to watch every CSI ever made. You know, that's only violence! Not to forget "Big Brother" doesn't get any flak even if it does show bad behavior and unedited swearing.

Soapnet would be a great place for, but it is too expensive for them to produce. Lifetime, TBS, TNT, or USA would have been better options as far as basic cable.

I completely agree! Don't forget insipid, tasteless bratty comedies like Two and Half Men which is perfectly ok for CBS but not a complex drama which happens to have some controversial topics.

Totally! I don't watch anything they have running right now!! After this slap in the face to us fans, I probably will boycott them for awhile. I'm pissed!

But the show never had any nudity or hot sex scenes which is frustrating!!!!!!!!

Soapnet wouldn't even pick up PASSIONS, and that was an actual Soap Opera.

That's right, I never thought of that...
