Swingtown OFFICIALLY done R.I.P.

News comes from the saveswingtown site that an insider has said that all of the contracts are all gone. No resolve for renewal from CBS despite them not announcing the official big C word (cancellation). It is done for good and time to move on. I personally have more hatred in my heart for CBS at this moment than all of the "Moonlight" fans combined. No wonder Carol Barbee couldn't say anything about "Swingtown" and instead said she was still trying to find a way to allow "Jericho" to continue.

Nina Tassler and CBS can no longer hold this above our heads.
No matter how well the DVD box set did, it was never enough.
Nielsen families dictate what we watch and they have no room for a show like "Swingtown."
CBS doesn't have enough room for "Swingtown."
We welcomed this show in our minds and hearts and will forever cherish the memories brought to us from Mike Kelley and Alan Poul (love you guys for it).

My sincerest hope is that CBS forever continues to only create cookie-cutter crime shows. They don't need buzz, accolades or awards. They are in love with their #1 status and Nielsen families. They should be satisfied by that alone while every other network continues to create innovative, fresh, and original shows that garner a sizable amount of fans believing in quality over quantity. We can rejoice in favorite programs that were short like "Pushing Daisies." Despite its short life, it won three Emmys and numerous other awards that CBS only dreams of ever attaining. Victory is sweet.

Molly Parker will go back to being a brunette.
Miriam Shor can now return to theater full-time.
Jack Davenport is allowed to go on to "Flash Forward"
Grant Show can continue his run in "Private Practice"
Brittany Robertson will be the lead in "Light Years"
Michael Rady can go back to "Greek"

Everybody else can be picked up for projects of their liking or what ever suits their fancy.

I will now turn my attention to ABC and NBC. Yes. Even Jay Leno at 10PM. Screw you CBS and your #1 rated crime and blood programming. I'm just glad we all finally have closure. That is all we ever asked for.

Bravo to - Grant, Lana, Jack, Molly, Miriam, Josh, Michael, Shanna, Brittany, Aaron, Nick, Kate, for their excellent portrayals of these characters and their trials and tribulations with the changing times. Mike Kelley for his grand vision. Alan Poul for sharing Mike's vision and some great props! Carol Barbee for hanging on and enjoying the ride. All of those who made the backdrops and stunning houses so much a part of us to be envious of and all of the sound and camera people who added all the right filters.

A huge thank you.

Give it up!
Give it up!

p.s. Please pass this on so CBS does not have to keep leeching our dreams of a second season.

Whats funny is is Swingtown was the only show I watched on CBS. None of the other shows intrigued me and I stopped watching CSI and catch them on Spike for the most part.

reply

Me, too. The only show in years I've watched on CBS. I'm not surprised , but disappointed. I thought it was a wonderful show. I wish it had started on cable, I think it would have had better odds.

reply

I'm also very sad. This show was great! I was completely hooked.

reply

I certainly hope, if it's the case that Swingtown really is cancelled, that a more-enlightened venue will be found. Think of JAG, among many other fine shows that a network has dumped. There is an audience for sophisticated, smart but envelope-pushing series like this.

Could be that with the right backing, this fine series could become as successful as it should be.

Sure hope so.

( Last Note: Check the reviews at Amazon re Swingtown. I get a sense that alota people get that the series
is more than salacious dangling of sex in front of viewers, but a great platform about how people deal with their lives/relationships/wants versus needs. )

A very well written post and I for one am truly saddened.

I was so hooked on this show and it is the only scripted show iI have watched on CBS in many, many years.

I will cherish my Season 1 DVD's.......

Argh! I just got the show on DVD. I guess that is all we will have now. Unfair.

reply

I too, am just completely BUMMED. This was the 1st non-reality show I have been seriously into in just, well, YEARS. This seems to happen to me often. The one's I like get cancelled. Such is life.

I am DONE with CBS.

Of course, I said this once before. "Smith", a smart, well-written, well-funded show with a stellar cast and great writing, sucked me and my wife in. CBS cancelled it after THREE episodes. They even had FOUR more episodes ready to air but never did.

I swore then that I was done with CBS. I only returned when I heard about Swingtown, which we ended up loving. Of course, CBS promptly cancelled it. So now I'm done for good. They lost me. I bought a used copy of the Swingtown box set, and a bootleg copy of Smith (with the 4 unaired episodes) so that CBS will never get a PENNY of my money.

It's all part of a bigger problem. There is a serious lack of talent in the front offices of the TV and movie studios. I've heard that many young execs actually consider it a badge of honor that they've never seen, or even heard of, the great classics of film (or television). There's no way that kind of attitude could produce any kind of quality product.

Then again, I may just be turning into an old coot.

Sigh...I was so hoping this show would be back for another season. It was such a perfect summer show.

reply

Man,i'm ultra frustrated because this show never had nudity and his name is swingtown.
I bet they cancelled it,coz the show never had hot sex scenes specially with Rachel Lafevre.
So much waste.
Well,we still have californication.

no RIP from me... they should get picked up by HBO or Showtimes - it would be the right place for them. shows on channels like CBS, NBC, ABC, TNT, & etc tend to be watered down and for people like me it's BOooooring. I love Dexter and when they put it on CBS it wasn't the same. i really like Big Love, but i can't imagine a channel like CBS trying to pick it up - it just will NOT be the same. same with Swingtown - those channels are just not it.

i love me

WOW! I bought this show on DVD from Amazon as Swingtown has not yet been shown in Australia; and all the stuff I read about it had made me more intrigued and interested in a show than I have been for a long time ..... plus reading that it starred some of my fave actors and actresses from previous series that I loved left me desperate to see it, e.g; Grant Show (Point Pleasant), Josh Hopkins (Pepper Dennis), Jack Davenport (This Life) & Miriam Shor (Then Came You)

But WOW! I cannot praise everyone involved in this show more. Grant Show, Josh Hopkins, Jack Davenport & Miriam Shor did not let me down ..... but others were great also, especially Lana Parrilla, Molly Parker & Michael Rady. The stories were so engrossing (I even settled into the awkward B.J & Samantha relationship quickly), but by far the highlight of the series was the dynamic relationship between the three couples. I totally loved the Janet and Trina relationship and thought that Miriam Shor, Lana Parrilla, Grant Show, Jack Davenport, Josh Hopkins, Molly Parker & Michael Rady all put in Emmy worthy performances.

I am not ashamed to admit that I was compelled to watch all 13 episodes non-stop on Sunday, which I rarely do (I did watch all of October Road S1 through in a day but that only comprised of 7 episodes .... another great show killed far too soon).

I am going to order a few copies of Swingtown on DVD for some of my family and friends in Australia as it is a great show that everyone should see .... and I encourage everyone to do the same ..... it may be too late to get the show resurrected ..... but at least others can see a great show that shoulda and coulda run for many seasons.

Miss you already

Yes, I myself just finished watching the final episode. I'm hooked, but there is nothing else to watch. So upsetting that such a well written show, with such brilliant characters, is gone. I really loved the premise, and the moral issues they were exploring. It was altogether funny, poignant and at time super *beep* up. I'm so glad I saw this lovely, yet short lived show. Such wonderful female leads as well!!!!!
