Why didn't they follow the original? Like a continuation?

This movie was so stupid. I only bought it because it was it was 3$ in the bin at Blockbusters. They could have at least had a script that picked up where the 1980 Prom Night left off. Jamie Lee Curtis could have gone wacko and started killing people with poisoned pro-biotic yogurt that she endorses in those silly commercials.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten

Because that entire story-line was senseless and boring. This movie was much better if you ask me, but that's just me.

The original was good, not great, but good.
The remake is one of the worst slasher movies. EVER!

Dude, so true! I gave Blockbuster my $3 too. Love Brittany Snow, but hated this movie. Jamie Lee high on pro-biotics would have made for a much better flick.

Oh, you're so COOL, Brewster!

Not much of a reboot if it's a sequel to a film most fans of this probably haven't even seen.

But then again, 2,3,4 had barely anything to do with the original. This could very easily have been part 5.

This has been said multiple times and apparently no one gets it: it wasn't a remake, or a re-boot, it was a movie all on its own that just had the same title. As was said by the director and every single one of the actors

All I recall was the lead actress said it wasn't a remake, but nothing about it being a whole new series. The remake exposure is probably what got this movie any attention at all, so I would not be surprised if the film-makers knew of the other films.
