HORRIBLE
Could not sit through the whole thing, it is that bad.
Someone was actually paid for making this mess?

It's worse than horrible.
shareHollywood executives would throw their first born sons into the firey pits of Hell just to make a buck.

Classic, wallace.
This film better not have cost more than 20 bucks. It was that bad.
If it was THAT bad it would have not made theaters.
shareWrong. One of the most blatantly ignorant statements that can be made on IMDB is to say "if it made the theaters it can't be that bad". Have you been living under a rock? On the moon? DOZENS of movies are released every year that don't belong on the big screen. Many more that SHOULD make the big screen are released direct to video. You don't need to advertise that you're an idiot quite so obviously do you?
The bottom line is that this movie is absolute dreck. Easily the worst "high budget" horror film released to the big screen that I've seen in YEARS. It is many times worse than a ton of DTV horror films.

That's exactly how I felt. I thought I'd give it a try since the trailer was decent, but I thought wrong. The visuals were nice, but the overall story, was craptastic as was the dialogue and the acting for 90% of the actors.
Where have all the good writers gone?

I watched it last night on DVD, from Netflix, and I must say, this film is horrible, the worst acting, story, plot. The killer who is after this particular girl Donna (Brittany Snow), is never explained why he is so obsessed with her, and he starts killing off all her friends at the hotel where the prom is taking place. This guy is twice her age, and he is obsessed with her. He kills her parents, brother at the beginning of the film in a 'dream remembrance sequence" she has, and months later or something, she's all happy about her prom, living with her uncle and his wife, and he escapes from prison, goes after her, finds her at the prom, kills her friends, and the whole story and plot is just stupid, acting is horrible, and I am surprised it was released in theatres on April 11th, 2008.
It has nothing to do with the original 1980 Sissy Spacek version, and this new version is crap. That is why they should never remake or reimagine classics. This film has no character development, no real plot that takes it's time to explain, and who this killer is, obsessed with Donna. This film should of never been made, what a waste of a production, money, and talent from actors who may never become famous. SKIP IT!
The film only made a total of $43,469,350. Worldwide: $57,197,876. Production was $20 million. It made more than the production. It was in theatres for only 49 days (7 weeks), closing last run on May 29th, 2008.
This is why remakes never work, and this is why they should never be remade ever again.
I thought this movie was horrible as well. Seriously, though, of course it has nothing to do with the "1980 Sissy Spacek version" cause she wasn't even in it. You're thinking of Carrie. The original Prom Night had Jamie Lee Curtis in it. Just had to clear that up!
shareLiked the movie movie also two movie posters from it also. Those are my words and can respect what others think
shareIts worse than horrible,i cant find a word to describe this garbage.

I'm glad Obama won, but I will not jump on the Pro-Choice bandwagon
This is one of those movies that were all the rage during the 00s, the "Teen Lite Horror" that tried to appeal to the CW/ABC Fam crowd that loved watching stuff like One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and even older, stuff like The OC and Dawson's Creek. You saw a lot of that post-Scream in horror. It was teh gold making trend to appeal to teens by aping that sort of "look" and "style". It started to die considerably in the early 2010s, and now, it all seems like a bad joke that overstayed its welcome, but has finally faded away. Right now, I think we are TOTALLY in a better place regarding horror as a whole. The 00s were, IMO, the Dark Age for Horror fans. Sure, there were a few that stood out and would always be memorable(even iconic), but there were soooo many horrible so-called horror movies that piggied back on each other. You also saw it alot in the horrible J-horror remakes(Ring and The Grudge were the only passable ones). Disgusting.
shareI was part of this crowd. And I loved it, when I could see actors from my favorite TV shows, on movies. And I still do. That said, depending on the movie. The problem with these "Teen Lite Horrors" of 00s, was the PG 13, that butchered every liitle hopes for a nice scary moment. And Prom night was just that, PG 13 horror, which made it so underwhelming. With some gore, tension and more suspense, the movie would have been decent. Unfortunatly, there aren't any, and it's just borderline watchable. Not that the "original", is any better. Because it felt more like a TV movie for gandma, than anything else. But this one is disappointing. Too many PG 13 & girly stuffs, made it lose all credibility, for it joining the slasher movie category. It's a teen thriller. And the only thing killer about it, was the soundtrack (Ben Taylor, Silversun Pickups, Bloc Party, Mellowdrone & Rock Kills Kid).
P.S: to be perfectly blunt, Prom Night was aiming at Nip/Tuck, Friday Night Lights & Heroes viewership. Nothing to do with CW or ABC Fam.
