What dies when the fruit in the pies lives for more than a minute?

I finally got seasons 1 + 2 (though i've seen every episode many times) and I just now am questioning the rules with fruit. Does other fruit die? I don't understand...

Yup, other fruit dies. It has to. There's nothing really to understand. We just don't see the fruit die all the time. It's just that Ned probably doesn't keep any other fruit in The Pie Hole, so it's just some random fruit somewhere else. There's a grocery store owner out there that's probably shaking his or her fist at the sky...

It's also possible something else of equal value dies, like grass or something. It's just off-screen.

@celavie77, I love that answer, it's perfectly perfect.

In S01E03 when Ned touches the peaches we see flowers in the corner dying. Something of equal value dies in its place not necessarily another fruit.

OH you know I found this great explanation online: it could due the build up of mold, bacteria that's alive, that dies instead after a minute.

But yes, something does have to die. We just don't usually see it, aside from the flowers that one time.

I got the impression that Ned keeps a supply of flowers in the kitchen to offset the fruit.

That does seem odd, though; he gets a good deal on bad fruit, but he's either got to buy flowers or at least gather live flowers.

It's probably a combination of things; flowers, bugs, bacteria, etc.
