Sequel from the 1984 film?

Not really, though it does mainly eschew the "origin story" part of the tale that "Greystoke" spends quite some time with and people have suggested that it could be viewed as sequel.

"Legend" is a rollicking action adventure that has (IMHO) much more of a feel of ERB's original pulp adventures than the treatise on class and civilization that Hugh Hudson served up with "Greystoke".

No tears please, it's a waste of good suffering.

About the only smart thing the producers appear to have done with this film is construct it, as seemingly, a sequel to the 1984 film.🐭

no as in the 1984 origin differs (Tarzans father is killed in the treehouse not outside. Jane wasn't American. there probably other differences too)
