Razor Blades in the Jungle

Why is Jungle Tarzan clean shaven?

reply

I suppose it's because they just didn't want to bother showing Tarzan scraping his face with a knife -- which is what he does in the classic novels.

It comes with the character, in the same way Superman never grows a beard, or is seen shaving with a kryptonite-based razor.🐭

In the novels, young Tarzan sees pictures of shaven Englishmen in some books left in his deceased parents' cabin; he also notices that most of the native African men (of the nearest tribe) are also clean shaven.

Thus he starts scraping his face with a knife -- to be more man than ape.
