Issue with film timeline - SPOILERS

I just watched the film yesterday and ejoyed it a lot. I had one problem:

In the first flashback, when Mateo/Harry is talking about Ernesto, it says the date is "2002, Madrid". In that same flashback Ernesto calls in his secretary for a dictation... and it's Lena, in 2002!

As the rest of the flashbacks are dated 1994, I was waiting the whole film to be told that she didn't really die but she continued living in a psychologically-abusive relationship with Ernesto - or he had something over her - maybe he had told her Mateo had died in the crash...

My friends are also sure that the first flashback said 2002, so am I missing something?

Please help!

what a confusion you have!
Before Ernesto calls Lena to his office for writing that letter, there is a date saying "Madrid, 1992". I'm sure you didn't notice it because you were reading subtitles, what Ernesto was saying to the phone.

Well this is the problem, at least in the UK version that date says "2002" not "1992"...... there was four of us and we all saw it!

Never mind, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some subtext.

wow ! .. that is a mistake because it also said 1992 when i saw it

Funny I thought exactly the same thing as the OP!
I just assumed I had made a mistake, as I remember the big chunky mobile, but now I wonder about the UK printing.
