I LOVED this movie.
I went into NY today to catch "The Last Station" and "Broken Embraces". I've only just seen it and already I can tell that it's seriously rivaling "Inglourious Basterds" as my favorite movie of the year. A second viewing will tell.
I was completely engrossed in the story from minute one. It's romantic, comedic, mysterious, melodramatic without being heavy-handed, and seriously...Penelope Cruz is a goddess. Rarely do actresses look even half as luminous as she does throughout this film. It also gets my vote for best cinematography of the year.
It's a love letter to the way films can change and enrich lives. Almodovar creates scenes that are so exhilarating, so purely and expertly crafted and cinematic that you don't want them to end.
The two scenes with the lip reader are perfect; heartbreaking, intense and romantic. They are probably my favorite scenes in any movie this year.
I LOVED this movie and I cannot wait to see it again. It finally expands beyond NY in the coming weeks so everyone go out and treat yourselves, because I promise you...all my adjectives don't do this film justice.
