ripped pictures (spoiler!)

I'm not quite sure about the bag with the ripped pictures.
When Judith picks up the bag from the room where Harry and Lena were staying in, the pictures are already ripped. However, Harry doesn't seem to have been in the room because Judith just picked him up from the hospital. The question is now... Why would Harry ripe them apart when he was happy with Lena? Or is it a mistake in the film?

I wondered too, as they are kind of important when Diego tries to reassemble them later.

I'm not sure why they were ripped up but they were pivotal because they were the "Broken Embraces" of Harry and Lena.

Just Because It Is Doesn't Mean It Should Be

I wondered this too but the only time possible was when they left for Madrid before the accident. It could've only been themselves, unless Ernesto Jnr did it cos he was the only other person who knew where they lived.

But in both cases, why would they do that??

Some spanish people were talking about it here when the film was released in Spain. It is just a mistery.
- Mateo wouldn't do that.
- Judith found them (she wasn't either)
- Ernesto Jr. finally was innocent like a child, I think that was the conclusion.
- So... I think it was Ernesto Martel Sr., and Judith realised about that in the moment she discovers that somebody has been in that hotel room recently tearing up the pictures. She even get so nervous and emotional when she calls "Harry, we have to go" at the beach, almost crying.
That would explain that when she is confessing in the bar celebrating Mateo's birthday, she said "I can't stop thinking that if I hadn't told Ernesto your hotel phone number, maybe it would have been different". Mateo dont see this connection between both things as he think it was just an accident, and gets angry. But I think Judith really believes that the accident was provoked by Ernesto or a contract killer, because she is hiding that info about the ripped pictures. That's why she was so emotinal at the beach, she thinks she helped Ernesto on killing Lena.
BUT the problem is that when Diego says "i am trying to fix all your photographs", we may think Mateo was keeping them all this time, but... NOT WONDERING WHO RIPPED THEM? Strange.

So the mistery is still going on.
Sorry for my fast and bad english

I just watched this movie this past week at the Dubai International Film Festival. We had the pleasure of attending a QnA session with the main actor Louis Homar after the film. This question was asked and Lluis answered that it was Ernesto Sr. that tore up the pictures.
Apparently, Lena's body was released from the hospital to her husband along with all her belongings. While Mateo was recovering in hospital, Ernesto Sr. made sure to bury Lena before Mateo recovered. He also tore all their pictures in an attempt to erase their memory.
This is apparently why Mateo was asking Judit if she saw Lena's grave when we he gets released from hospital, as he wanted to make sure that Ernesto Sr. gave her an honourable burial.

@anabasil:
Thanks for the info!!

So we may think that it was a real random accident. Harry may understand that after the accident, Ernesto went to the island to take Lena's body and belongings, from the hospital and from the hotel. He maybe (i said maybe) even paid the hotel's bill, as we know Ernesto Sr. was there taking Lena's belongings and finding all those pictures, the proof of the romance. He tore them up.
Ernesto buried Lena in her village, and Judit was there representing Harry.
Harry kept the pictures, even if they were torn up by Ernesto Sr.

When Judit found the pictures, got very emotionally touched. I still think she has the strange superstition that maybe it was not an accident, and she helped unintentionally.

Ey, remember Ernesto and Lena were not married. That's why Lena was buried at her village, next to her father's grave, not in a high luxury grave in Madrid.
