this movie was like a daytime soap opera.

this movie had no other message outside of being a melodrama that was equivalent to a bad daytime soap opera.
and be honest if Penelope Cruz was not in this film..it would be completely dismissed.

Zachary Quinto is ridiculously sexy! Robert Downey Jr....is pure sex!

Doubtful. There are much more deeper undertones that make this film work, rather than just starpower Penelope Cruz. Almodovar's movies are better understood when seen numerous times, as this movies is practically 4 films(4 perspectives) into one.

a street car named desire, stella dallas among others, are all melodramas...... you can call them bad soap operas if you like, but i think you need to study the genre a bit more before you make comparisons :)

I loved Almodovar's the other films ..but this film did not rise above the level of a soap opera. Granted soap operas are heighten melodramas.
Really what message did you get from this film.
And to compare thid to street car named desire is ludicrous.
Street Car is a play which will be performed generations to come...this is not ever going to be a classic.
Truly if Penelope wasn't in it...it would unmentionable.
Which makes me wonder why not have another actress to have played Lena. Are there no other beautiful excellent actresses in Spain?...I'm sure there must be, but again if Cruz wasn't bringing her star power..this movie would be lost in the shuffle

I'm somewhere in the middle. I enjoyed the film, found it artfully, if
clumsily, told. But it was way too long.
