They have announced the nine semi-finalists for the foreign film Oscar. "Los abrazos rotos" is not among them. That mans it will not get nominated.
Damn, the foreign film category is screwed up in the Oscar race! Why is it that the foreign films that should be nominated get nominated by other award committees, but hardly ever for Oscars?
The oscars botch the nominees for best foreign film nearly every year...however, I'm not too upset by this omission.
The fact of the matter is that this film isn't an Almovodar homerun and definitely one of his lesser works. Also, he's already well-known so opening to the door for other foreign film-makers will be nice for some of the lesser knowns to get some recognition here.
And even if it did get nominated, there was no chance of it winning against The White Ribbon

Moreover, the Spanish Film Academy is the one who choose one only film to send it to a possible oscar nomination. First they choose three, and finally one of them.
Broken Embraces wasn't even in the top three.
As much as I like Almodovar, I think he doesn't need anymore to be nominated on that foreing race. It's good to give the opportunity to other filmmakers.

Almovodar is gonna have an audience til he dies at this point regardless of awards...let some one else get recognized
