it is overrated but i'm not a troll
sure i liked the beginning, i thought it was a beautiful opening seeing wall e go about his business all alone in the stunning environment he is in. The animation is a work of art all the way through in fact.
where the film falls down in my opinion is in the character and story. i rate it as a technically brilliant film with no substance to it, merely false emotion and false storyline that follows a template so carefully that there is nothing new to it.
wall-e himself is a decent character and that opening segment makes us like him and interested enough to follow his story. however i never ever got to like or be interested in eve. she's flat, annoying and not worthy of attention. therefore in my books, the love story part of the film is not well done and didn't engage me that much.
then there's the story of wall-e following eve to the planet with the fat humans on it. a decent idea to show what humanity may come to if we carry on living extravagantly, but then it becomes a standard race to save something against the clock. hmmm, i've seen this before countless times. then the ending of wall-e. the false ending when we think he won't remember her followed by the incredibly predictable moment when something happens to bring back his memory. they've saved the humans and they'll live happily ever after. doesn't really do the job for me. i know this is a children's film , therefore i don't know why people are so moved by the utterly unimaginative storyline..
i rated this a 4. for me a film needs to engage me on an emotional level or at least entertain me more. this is why films like iron man and that lot never really get me interested. because in the end it's a bunch of dull characters fighting with tons of dull explosions. it needs more than just action.
