it is overrated but i'm not a troll

sure i liked the beginning, i thought it was a beautiful opening seeing wall e go about his business all alone in the stunning environment he is in. The animation is a work of art all the way through in fact.

where the film falls down in my opinion is in the character and story. i rate it as a technically brilliant film with no substance to it, merely false emotion and false storyline that follows a template so carefully that there is nothing new to it.

wall-e himself is a decent character and that opening segment makes us like him and interested enough to follow his story. however i never ever got to like or be interested in eve. she's flat, annoying and not worthy of attention. therefore in my books, the love story part of the film is not well done and didn't engage me that much.

then there's the story of wall-e following eve to the planet with the fat humans on it. a decent idea to show what humanity may come to if we carry on living extravagantly, but then it becomes a standard race to save something against the clock. hmmm, i've seen this before countless times. then the ending of wall-e. the false ending when we think he won't remember her followed by the incredibly predictable moment when something happens to bring back his memory. they've saved the humans and they'll live happily ever after. doesn't really do the job for me. i know this is a children's film , therefore i don't know why people are so moved by the utterly unimaginative storyline..

i rated this a 4. for me a film needs to engage me on an emotional level or at least entertain me more. this is why films like iron man and that lot never really get me interested. because in the end it's a bunch of dull characters fighting with tons of dull explosions. it needs more than just action.

Please dont use US, because i am not included in that. I respect ur opinion but not every movie is for every one.

lets take an example, I never liked Star wars, It doesnt mean its a bad movie, Its just that I didnt like it much.

for me Wall.E is the one of the most romantic movies ever made.

I think it's overrated. I gave it an 8/10. It's a very good movie, it just didn't engage me that much after the first act.

The Lion King is my all-time favorite animated film, but, hell, Lion King is overrated.

A) It's not a planet. It's a spaceship. Ess-Pee-A-Cee-E-Ess-Aitch-I-Pee.
B) I agree that the later part of the movie plays more like a standard, action-adventure.
C)Happy endings are not bad.
D) This film has more substance and layers than 3/4s of 2008's movies put toghether.
E) After re-reading your post a few times I still can't comprehend what's a "false storyline" nor a "false emotion".

After reading and hearing lots of excellent reviews about this movie, i decided to finally watch it tonight. This movie is good but it has to be the most overrated movie of the last 10 years. All the visuals, music and animation are 10/10, but the story is predictable and have been made a million times already.
I also saw this movie in many top lists of "endings that made you cry". really? I mean, it would be sad and made someone cry if Wall-e was left without memory, but no, it was a happy ending, and not the kind of happy ending that would make you cry. Anyways, i rate this movie 6/10.

...and a predictable story is bad now why? I would say most films I watch are predictable. Twists are in there but the story still remains predictable in most cases.

Point being, we are all there for the story. That's why we came there - it would be odd if we all came for surprises but seriously... the premise bought you to the film but does anyone predict something 100%? I mean, every segment, every dialogue, every motive and every move?

Some people just love to say things like this which project their own characteristics. Basically saying "I am unpredictable", "I like to be surprised", "I am full of emotional".

Go and tell a girl and let us all bask in great movies without somebody telling us "well that didn't play out like that film with all the twists and strange obscure happenings we all thought was great because they said it was from a critics/awards/cult zine or website said it was..."

There's no such thing as overrated guys. Ratings are just a reflection of how much the population enjoyed it.

There may be some people who give false ratings to try and pump a movie up but that happens for all films, not just this one.

Personally I gave it a 10/10 solely for the first half of the film. It could've stood by itself so the 2nd half is effectively just credits for me.

There are no new stories and there hasn't been since before the Bible.

The vast majority:

Boy meets girl.
Girl gets boy into pickle.
Boy gets pickle into girl.

Pretty much WALL-E.

This film is oversentimental, plays on the motherinstincts and on the hope you consider the main character cute a little too much. It concentrates too much on the moralising warnings (all people fat, they talk only on skype, Earth filled with trash) instead of having any good interesting thoughts on the future or how people would live then, it might be considered a good sci-fi film only if you are into the moralising type. In Miyazaki's cartoons for example the balancing of cute characters, sincere emotions, fantastic futuristic settings and ideas about the future and humans against or with nature is done a lot better. This film has some sincere moments though, but doesn't stimulate a humans intellect at all, gearing more towards stupifing kids and making them more unfoundedly emotional like most Hollywood kids stuff. Don't think that makes it a very good film.

I agree that the first part of the movie with WALL-E on Earth is much superior to what comes afterward. I give it a 8/10 because it's still pretty good but not anywhere near as good as the "mainstream" seems to think.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

You may not like the movie, but to say it has no substance is you exaggerating to make your point. A movie can have substance and you still not like it. I feel like you're pulling the whole "no substance" stuff out of your ass. Why can't you just say you don't like it.

You know why this movie is great? Because it's simple and still tugs at your heart. You think we don't know that kiss is going to bring him back? I knew and I still had a lump in my throat after seeing it for like the 5th time.

second half failed to keep me engaged, underwhelmed overall...technically really good, but as a story it wasn't for me
6/10

I also feel it's over-rated. I much prefer pretty much every other Pixar film to this one (I haven't seen the Cars series)
