season 3 was not in the same league as 1 + 2...

they should have stopped after the christmas special. The whole tone of season 3 was a bit off. it wasnt funny, more dramatic. I do not think it was the acting or the writing, which was exceptional as always, but something about the music and the direction...lots of really funny moments ruined by poor music editing and direction...first example the pops into my mind was Bryn at the beach, coming out of the ocean like Daniel Craig...should have been really funny, instead it was just there...
Its still better than most of the comedies the Beeb has put out recently...

I agree, a clear drop in quality for this series.

Nessa, in particular, came across as a really unpleasant, snarky piece of work. The music was too intrusive too.

He looks like what happens when you punch a cow!

I have found both Smithy and Nessa increasingly irritating as series 3 has gone on. Still, it isn't really a surprise is it? - the two writers bigging up their own parts somewhat.

Oh man, I disagree completely. I thought the 3rd series had so much heart. Had me laughing out loud all the time, while also having some real touching moments.

I think there's a huge difference in tone from series 1 and series 2. Series 1 is all about Gavin & Stacey being in love. There are a few less-than-blissful moments, but in general, it's all pre-wedding excitement.

Series 2 portrays the problems encountered by the newlyweds: stacey adjusting to life outside of Barry, dealing with Gavin's mum, trying to find a new job, and ultimately, deciding whether or not to stay with Gavin. I would expect series 3 to be in the same tone as series 2. (Despite the "ChristmasSpecial=HappyBliss" episode that comes between series 2 and 3.)
