Proposed episodes for Dogfights

Here are some of my proposed future episodes for Dogfights.

Battle of Britain part 1
Battle of Britain part 2
Erich Hartmann: The Black Devil
Aces of the Spanish Civil War
Australian Aces of World War Two
Maple Leaf Aces (Canadian aces throughout history)
The Nightwitches (Russia)
Air Wars Over China (Nationalist/Japan and Nationalist/Communist)
India-Pakistan Wars
Eddie Rickenbacker

What else do you think they should cover?

reply

I think they should cover every single air-to-air fight that has ever taken place in history, but since they had a budget of less than forty bagillion dollars (don't the folks at HC know what's important?), I guess we have to pick.

Good choices, all. I'd add:

The Winter and Continuation Wars (Finland and Russia)
The North African campaign
The Iran-Iraq War
Dogfights over the Bekaa Valley (Lebanon, 1982)

reply

How about an episode of "Forgotten Aces" of miscellaneous aces who didn't fit any of the above categories? Also something about the Vietnam war from the Vietnamese side could be interesting.

reply

An idea for a future episode would be the events of August 8, 1942 when Japanese ace Saburo Sakai was seriously wounded over Guadalcanal and flew almost 600 miles back to his base at Rabaul, with a bullet wound in his head.

reply

PBS already covered Sakai in Secrets of the Dead:

reply

They didn't cover any action between same type aircraft.

Iran-Iraq war would've seen Mig vs Mig (I think). But there would've been plenty of Mig vs Mig action during the second half of the 20th century.

These are all excellent proposals Blue387!

I think they should cover:

1st Gulf of Sidra Incident (19/8/1981)
2nd Gulf of Sidra Incident (4/1/1989)
Hainan Island Incident (1/4/2001)
1960 U-2 Incident
Close Aerial Encounters of the Cold War
The Cuban Missile Crisis
Korean Airlines Flight 007
Any dogfights that have occurred in the current Libyan unrest

It's been 3 years since the History Channel aired their latest episode, Dogfights of the Future. I hardly believe they're ever going to continue the series. It's dead in the water.

I agree about the Battle of Britain. It seams there was a noticeable void in the TV series by not including the Battle of Britain. The British Spitfire was a formidable fighter aircraft, before the introduction of the P-51 Mustang. The only segment in the entire series that touched on the Battle of Britain is the episode called "Night Fighters" where they showed historical footage about the British Radar Stations, during the Battle of Britain.
