Worth watching if you get the chance.

I'm seriously surprised that no one has put up anything about this film because it is quite simply brilliant.

As the review says.it is a little different in approach,no Jane Austen pretty focus in this...in fact far from it.If anything it's Dickens but much, much harsher and realistic and in some senses totally appalling to think that in 'civilised London' that was the reality of the time.

The sound scape takes a little getting used to at first but the mix of background of (difficult to describe) noises seemingly coming from the next rooms, mixed with modern commentary show very quickly how little people have changed through time,if at all.Hogarth's people and their lifestyles are around now.

It is worth a look if only to see a period piece that was realistic. The 'X file' type tags are period details of the time and life and law.

And unlike the reviewer I'm not a Hogarthian purist so I was totally caught up by the story and the actor's performances

Fascinatingly different.

'Off the record, on the QT, very Hush,Hush!

I loved the movie from top to bottom. I've read a lot about the status of women before the "modern age" 1900 and later. This movie is more true to those historical books than over 95% of prettified Hollywood movies.

Sadly, the way the men treated women in the movie still happens today. In the history of mankind, only recently have men been forced to treat women better than disposable garbage. Even though the movie set up Mother Needham as a big villain, the worst character in the movie by far was Hirsch. The rich guy who scarred Mary's arm with boiling water.

I wonder what happened with Mary's servant. The woman who took care of her and her son. No matter how low Mary fell, the woman was even lower.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
