Better Call Saul retcons

Is there anything clearly established in Breaking Bad that Better Call Saul retcons or contradicts? Everything seems to fit nicely between the two series, but it seems like Saul, Mike, and Gus might have gone about things differently if the events of Better Call Saul played out before the events of Breaking Bad, like if Breaking Bad were the spin-off of Better Call Saul instead of vice versa.

Vince Gilligan was very careful to align everything from Breaking Bad's past into Better Call Saul.

The only "plot hole" I would note is Kaylee's age, and the fact that Mike looked older in BCS than he did in BB.

That was the subject of many, MANY threads on the IMDb boards, and to a lesser extent, here on MC. It was a retcon out of practicality since, with the BCS timeline starting in 2002, Kaylee would have to be 3yo.

I think there was at least 3 different Kaylee's throughout BCS.

There is also the fact that his diploma on Breaking Bad reads "Saul Goodman", a name that "Jimmy McGill" was not using yet when he graduated.

But it's possible he got the diploma reprinted to reflect his new name.

Mike and Saul’s relationship in Breaking Bad makes no sense based on BCS. Obviously this is BCS’s writings fault.

reply

Actually, I think their relationship in BB makes more sense now, in the context of what we see in BCS. In BB, you can tell that Mike barely tolerates Saul, because he warned Saul early on to not get involved with Walt.

reply

That makes absolutely no sense at all.

reply

How so? Why, exactly, do you think their relationship in BB now makes no sense in the context of what we saw in BCS?

reply

In BCS they are basically friends and been through a ton of shit especially in Bagman. In Breaking Bad, they don’t care about each other at all and seem like strangers basically

reply

But in BCS, they're really not that good of friends at all. They basically use each other for their own benefit. Mike barely has any respect for Jimmy, personally or professionally In BB, it's even less so because of Saul's insistence on getting involved with Walt despite Mike's stern warning to not do so.
