You never got to see Skyler and Walt Jr. being told the news that Walt had died in the compound...they just ended it with Walt dying. Would have been nice to have that closure to see the grief/relief that the nightmare for them was finally over.
There's really no need for it,other than fan service. A lot of people wanted to see that in El Camino (which to an extent was fan service but still a pretty good epilogue to Jesse's story).I don't think that Vince Gilligan has any desire to turn his baby into a never ending series of sequel's/spin offs ala..........The Walking Dead (God Forbid!!)
Some people want a series/franchise like this to go on forever, then complain about the results when it does & becomes the same thing over and over ..... (once again, ala TWD).Give credit to Vince for creating a solid story with a clear beginning middle & end & not caving in to the temptation of milking it perpetually for all it's worth .
While it might have been a good scene, I do think the series makes more sense ending with Walt's death.
It would be interesting watching the contrast, though, because while Skylar would be relieved (I think), she'd have very mixed emotions. I think she did love him, even to the end, and she lamented what he became - so far removed from the man she loved. Walt Jr., on the other hand (Flynn, probably) despised his father at the end and would have been really happy. Skylar would kinda have to pretend to have no sorrow over her husband's death, too.
In some ways, the most interesting stuff would come with Holly as she grew up. What would Skylar tell her about Walt? Marie would probably serve up all kinds of nastiness, but I bet Skylar would be a bit more reserved and let Holly in on the great stuff, too - no matter what her brother or aunt said.
Hey, Vince Gilligan, there's your spinoff: Holly White finds out about her dad and...becomes a chemistry superstar working for Gretchen and Elliott? ...joins the DEA tracking down drug lords? ...recreates the Big, Bad Blue Stuff from scratch and becomes "Heisenberg 2"?
