possibly the worst cokney gangster film ever?

This is possibly the worst of the cockney gangster genre that has blighted the British film industry since Mockney Guy Ritchie unleashed Lock stock and two badly acted barrels. This "True Life" story of Carlton Leach (who?) has everything that is wrong with this genre, a truly awful script that consists of people screeching "Cant", "Fahcking Cant" and "I'll kill ya, ya fahcking cant" ad naseum. The acting is uniformly dreadful with the two most recognisable cast members being two former soap stars quite visably out of their depth. For all the action scenes it seems that the camera was tied to a piece of string and whirled around while people pretended to fight and the story of somebody most people have never heard of and nothing really interesting happens too is a complete waste of time. Overall this film is a reminder of why the british film industry is defunct and the sooner we stop funding these pathetic abortions the better.

Hilarious how poeple try to be "reviewers" but the only thing they can do is throw stones. The reason why reviewers get paid to do their job and YOU are still saying "can I help you?" for a living is because they have actual skill and objectivity. You have just written about 150 words and really said bugger all productive. Congrats.

reply

From his 150 words of 'bugger all' I totally agree with him. It was as if the director and actors were desperate to have a film in this to be classed alongside the buisness, football factory, essex boys etc. Overall it was an epic fail. Also i don't see anything productive in your wee part tbh. Would be great to know what you do for a living. You obviously look down on shop assistants or fast food workers but somehow give away that you see yourself below film critics? I don't understand. What makes you above someone simply giving their valid thoughts on a film? The OP has at least given something to the film board whereas you have not only had an off-topic random rant but showed your social insecurity.

Just to put you straight about something, I'm actually an award winning film maker.

Hmm what award and film?

reply

An RTS award, thats the Royal Television Society Award for best student film. It has never been released so you won't have heard of it but I am now moving up the ladder of filmmaking thanks to it.

reply

Your opinion and so called award means nothing on IMDB.

Oh yes, I won an Oscar... no really.

reply

my award means that I don't work in a shop and that as I'm in the film industry, albeit just starting out, then yes my opinion does count. Especially when talking about rubbish like this. Also you said so called award? they're second in prestige only to the Bafta's. They're the equivalent of the Golden Globes to the Oscars. Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan, David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Michael Palin and so on have all won this award. Not to shappy really.

reply

I have a feeling that you are going to need the funding you are complaining so hard about...

reply

So called award because here you are just another randomer trying to big note an awards that seperates movie enthusiasts from themselves.
So please shut up.

So what? Do you get an injection of good taste when you join the film industry? That really isn't apparent when I look at the rental shelves.

reply

Yep. Crappy film about some gangster loser who would be better of being sterilized and put behind bars for all time. Society don't need trash like this and their like. Let them kill eachother. They do the whole world a favour. That the main character actually gotten to propagate and set children to the world is sickening. How *beep* up will his kids be when they got this loser for a father? All he know is violence, drugs and war. He know nothing about compassion, love, mercy and all the other good qualities humanity possess. People like this bring us all down to a more primitive level. Ironically he probably look at himself like a good guy, likeable and friendly. Sociopaths do that. They don't know themselfes how screwed up their thinking is.

Anyway, this film ain't worth it, for so many reason. The violence is more brutal than Fight Club, which actually was a good film, and more pointless than the violence in Hostel. That it actually is based on some true events even make it more pointless. Why some obscure film maker felt the need to glorify some idiots is just as moronic as this movie was.

(wow..that became a longer rant than planned. Oh well!)

reply

I enjoyed the film, the fact that is based on a true story adds to the film.

Real life is often used to make films and it doesnt glorify it, if you felt it did then you are the one with the problem. How can you watch that film and think they were glamorous? it portrayed a seedy, violent life and one that i am happy to only ever see on film.

To me these true storys made into films, like goodfellas for example, usually do the exact opposite of glorify the life. Do you really think a few years of money and underworld fame is worth a shotgun to the head? Would you like that life? Glorified? Talk about missing the point of gangster movies! They are warnings about this way of life.

Suppose you think Saving private ryan glorifies war?

"do you not hear that dreadful noise all around ? that’s the sound that screaming men call silence"

There's a difference between making a 'good' film about a real life story and a 'bad' film based on a true story. This is a bad film, full stop.

I agree with the initial poster - this film was nothing short of a travesty. Cliched to the hilt, devoid of any real depth, lacking in decent performances, disjointed... The last 30 minutes feel like they were tacked on as an after-thought to be honest. What staggers me is who the heck finances all this stuff? It's the like the film funding councils in the UK have one criteria;

"Is it a gangster film?"

"Yes."

"Here's your money."

God bless the UK film industry, shallow beyond compare.

reply

"The last 30 minutes feel like they were tacked on as an after-thought "
> Absolutely agree. And at the end when he was grieving: seriously? Who the hell were those guys anyway?
Disjointed rubbish.
