The "weird" rescues the kids, is riding off in the desert, gets to the next town and the kids are gone*??? What did he do, dump them in the desert? lol. Did anyone else do a double take on this?

yeah for a second I was like 'where did the kids go??' but then I just assumed he passed by a village and left them there or something. He wasn't mean enough to dump kids in the desert, after all he DID bother to save them, so...

yeah I noticed this too, but what bothers me the most is the downright horrific aiming in the movie, by far the worst aiming with guns in film history

I think this was almost done as a joke. The whole "saving the kids" scene was funny, and it's even funnier that there's no explanation as to where they went. It's as if he just dumped them in the desert. Haha
