Why on earth would the prosecutor be driving a Volkswagen? This is one of the many odd scenes in the movie. Surely he wouldn't be driving 'Hitlers's car'.

It was NOT "Hitler's CAR" but the "Peoples Car". folks-wagon.

I too found it odd, and yes Hitler and Nazi Germany had a lot to do with the car. It is known today as the Volks (People's) wagen (car) but it's first name was the Kdf-wagen (Kraft durch Freude) a.k.a "strength through joy" wagen and was assigned through the SS to SS officers. Also, the Wolfsburg factory was built with Jewish slave labor. Read the book "Small Wonder" to learn this and much more.

P.S. anyone who spells it "folks-wagon" instead of Volkswagen should not be taken seriously

I am watching this movie right now wondering the same thing.

Volkswagen in Israel? Every jew I know would never buy or even be seen in a VW.

Most of them hate Mercedes also. That VW is in a lot of scenes. How could the producers miss this unless they are trying to show that the captain is sympathetic for the Germans.

I wondered about this as well ... and if you go back and re-watch the film there are many VW's throughout. I seriously doubt you could find a single VW or Benz anywhere in Israel in 1960! Just another example of how sloppy this film is. Kinda pathetic really.

The Israelis are not as reluctant to use German products, as some of you might think. I have seen military rifles (Mausers) that they have converted to use different ammunition and they also also used a lot of the Mausers in the 1948 war of independence.

Guess where many of the Mausers were made. Germany.
