In the parent warning thing on this movie it says that if battle royale was banned in the U.S then, this movie would be banned too. What does that mean? Is this worse then battle royale? and is battle royale that bad anyways?? Thanx!
It's probably just the involvement of children in violent situations. But if it's all fake and no one was really hurt during the filming(you know, on purpose) then I don't see the big deal.
I just ordered this movie from netflix and am going to watch it tomorrow with my friends so I don't know too much about this movie.
toei just won't sell the licensing rights here, so no one can legally screen/distribute it. its copyright laws, not censorship.
That's not true. I don't know where you got your information from because Toei never withheld the North American distribution rights.
One did set to distribute it, but then the school shooting happened. They didn't go ahead with the distribution because the American media and public were on a witch hunt to blame the shooting(s) on someone or something. US theatrical, VHS and DVD distributors wouldn't touch it because of the school shooting(s).
One film company did plan to remake Battle Royale, but couldn't because of the American media negative reaction. The remake is still in the works (New Line Cinema). How could any of them say they will do a remake if Toei withheld the rights?
Toei has nothing to do with with the status of the American remake and American theatrical/DVD distribution of Battle Royale. The delays are between American companies and the American media or the public, and the American shooting events.
Currently, the only US distributor of Battle Royale available is NetFlix, an online streaming video company.
it doesn't matter anyway. the original BR film sucks ass. Never saw the sequel, heard it was even worse. read the novel or the manga. do not the watch the movie. the novel is a masterpiece. One of my favorite books. and it touches on the corruption of society, and the hope to find a better world. the movie takes that all away and just reduces it to mindless violence. anyone who only sees the movie and does read the original novel it was based on, is missing out on the true story. the book was totally different.
For me, both novel and film are "meh". I haven't read the book in English (my preferred language) because I think maybe the translator and English editor might make it better somehow.
Also, you should read more novels and watch more films from Japan if you enjoy tales of corruption. Corruption is a popular theme in our pop culture. It's boring for me because it's rehashed over and over and over and over.
We know it's popular because life here is so boring. Films and novels make it more exciting. Corruption! Violence! Children are killing children! Elitism! Die! Die! Figures of power and authority are so corrupted! So morally bad! So exciting! It's better to say our society is corrupted because it makes us look more interesting than we really are.
For you, corruption might be still interesting so do read some more novels from Japan.
