Although the special effects of The Grudged were more advanced, I thought that this had the creepier story by far. I wasn't expecting a lot going in, but I was pleasantly surprised in a pretty big way.
The other "pinku" version was reprehensible though. It was more like watching a porn.
So many people seemed to like Juon but I think it was overrated. I liked this movie a lot more.
shareSame here. For some reason I didn't find Juon to be frightening, or engaging, at all when I watched it upon its North American DVD debut way back when. This one, on the other hand, really spooked me. I need to watch it again sometime soon.

Shiraishi is responsible for Noroi (2005), one of my favorites and truly scary imo, as well as Occult (2009) and Grotesque (2009) all of which I rate higher than this, which I don’t hate or anything. Dude has directed 88 movies. Dang….
