I'm 16 minutes in, watching TRUMBO on Netflix instant streaming movies, and THEY HAVE NOT MENTI0ONED HE WAS A COMMUNIST PARTY MEMBER! Or that as a CPUSA member under Party discipline, he supported Nazi Germany from August 1939 (when the Soviet-German non-aggression pact was signed) to June 1941, when Hitler invaded the USSR. That he willingly accepted party discipline, wrote anti-British propaganda and belonged to a party that attacked Franklin D. Roosevelt for being anti-fascist.

They have not mentioned that JOHN HOWARD LAWSON (who they have shown as one of the Hollywod 10) was the Commintern's Hollywood apparatchik, answerable directly to Gerhardt Eisler, a Commintern member, who was under direct orders of the Kremlin.

This is all documented from the old Soviet archives and America's Verona intercepts of Soviet diplomatic traffic.

It's perverse to portray Dalton Trumbo as a "liberal" when in fact, he was at war with liberals, as was his Party.

The Soviet Union in league with Nazi Germany launched WWII when they invaded Poland. The USSR then invaded Finland, and the Stalinists like Lillian Hellman defended the aggression.

This is why liberals and non-Stalinist progressives despised Trumbo and the communists.

EVERYONE KNEW THAT HE WAS A CPUSA MEMBER! All of the Hollywood 10 were known communists as they attended meetings and published in CPUSA publications and argued CPUSA positions.

Why do they leave this out?

Guy, I agree with your larger point, that the film whitewashed the Hollywood Ten (I do not think the blacklist was justified; but the story would have been both more interesting and more accurate if they'd provided a wider context).

However, whatever his sympathies, Trumbo was not actually a member of the CPUSA until 1943, several years after the USSR had been invaded by Germany and the U.S. had joined the war so you should probably correct that part of the comment.
