Did this movie get an 'Affirmative Action' oscar?
I mean, it's political and all, Hollywood that is.

shareYes. This movie was just plain dull. A pointless exercise. But since a woman directed it, the academy hyped it up, people bought it and they gave her the award. I saw it once, and tried to pay attention, but it just laid there and never went anywhere. At this point I remember NOTHING about that movie. Nothing to remember.

That's a ridiculous statement. All because you didn't like it doesn't mean they gave an Oscar just because of the sex or race of key people.
The Academy likes war movies, anyway. Up didn't win because of a bias against animated movies. Inglorious Basterds was probably too cheeky for the Academy. Avatar was probably too fantasy/sci-fi/box-office grossing/stereotypical. Most of the other movies didn't have much of a chance.
Bigelow is a brilliant director, it has nothing to do with her gender. Besides, if the Academy was that desperate to give out an Oscar to a female director they would have done so ages ago. 2008 is a bit late.

This is a flame post obviously, don't take it to heart.
I didn't particularly like it, and I had no idea who directed it. The only other film that comes to mind where I even know the director was a female was Lost in Translation, which I did like. I didn't like the Coppola nepotism though, I'm looking at you Nick Cage, with your bland one character acting.
