Pretty good but 6 Oscars w/ Best Picture! RUKM?????

No way.
Writing? RUFKM!!!!!!
Renner plays a psychopath & nobody in the Army seems to care or even notice (except his 2 partners) the guy is a psychopath who puts everybody's lives at risk. And then after he gets home, they let him go back to endanger more US soldiers.
The way they treat each other, incl no regard for rank, was extremely hard to believe.
The way they dealt with the sniper situation out in the field was extremely hard to believe, including the idea that Sanborn out-dueled a real sniper and it was never stated that Sanborn was a sniper.
Geez, Sanborn even shot the other guy on the run, from a half-mile away. LOL.
And Sanborn sat there in the same position for minutes, the same position used by a person who the Iraqi sniper had already killed very easily. None of it made any sense.
Once they found the body that they thought was Beckham, everything else they did in that encounter was completely unprofessional. They were clowns.
There were other things Renner did, heck almost everything Renner did, that were ridiculous.

Directing? Well, none of the problems with the writing were fixed. I would say the scene with the cereal was funny & insightful.

A. Mackie was the best thing here. I'm surprised he hasn't had a lead role after this.

Wow I had the same opinions as you. All of the thibgs you mentioned I felt the same way. I really do not understand the point of this movie. It was about a bomb guy who endangers his team, is that it?

reply

It was about a bomb guy who endangers his team, and cannot stop endangering his team, and cannot see what he is doing, because he has become addicted to the thrill of endangering his own life. I don't remember the exact line, but near the end he says something about only feeling alive when he is in danger of dying.

Still, a hugely disappointing movie.

reply

While I disagree with your opinion on the film being a disappointment, you're 100% correct in what Renners character presented. "War is a Drug"... We see this immediately in the first scene. To him, he is a Junkie for the Action. No doubt about it

reply

agreed.

the oscars are pure business politics; the sooner people learn this, the happier they will be.
