The should have Burned After Shooting

The film, that is.

Waste of talent.

I agree.

why? this movie was a hilarious comedy.

reply

It was pointless and unfunny.

Yes, I understand the "pointlessness" was the joke, and that would've been fine, if it had been funny. But it wasn't.

And it's not like I don't appreciate this type of dry, ironic humor -- I do -- but this movie was just plain weak. Not funny. Denis Leary knows how to do it. The Coen brothers do not.

everyone including me at the theater couldnt stop laughing. the comedy comes from all the chaos caused by the various character's stupidity and ignorance.

Humor is subjective, but it´s not pointless in the least - in fact, it´s a scathing satire of the post-9/11 paranoia as well as today´s American´s obsession with themselves and particularly their bodies.

@franz -

Good call on the 9/11-thing. It *IS* quite a biting satire.

I don't see this movie as being a comedy - not even a black comedy. I think that there are things that make this movie somewhat bemusing or amusing, and it's possible that the Coen brothers actually had that in mind when they were writing it, but I think that how funny a person sees this movie lies completely in how they are able to relate to it and get what's going on. I mean, it's just one big huge clusterf### mess, bourne completely out of their collective dysfunction.

I found myself chuckling and saying, "what the f###" so much through the movie at all of the odd-ball plot twists, but not really outright laughing. Don't get me wrong though - I thoroughly enjoyed it - I just didn't really see it as a comedy.
