Osborn Cox's letter

What was in the letter that he got from the two guys in the bar, mid way through in the movie, as Osborn is being told by his Princeton buddy his book is with the Russians. They never reveal what was in that letter. Was the point just to show how embarrassed Osbourn was, or something, or was there something in that letter relevant to the plot?

He's being served a summons for divorce action.

"Served, and witnessed." That's the key line in that scene.

It's funny the way Cox is served his summons so slickly, while the bumbling kid following Harry around gives it away completely.

Oh. I had no idea that's how divorces work. I've never been divorced, hope I never am.

Really, those two scenes were being compared/contrasted. I guess divorced is harsh for everybody.
