Fantastic!
This was absolutely amazing! I loved it! It was creative, terrifying and had a good storyline.
I am hoping it leads into another one.

What exactly did you like about it?
shareLiterally everything.
The cast was amazing. The Cinobites looked great. The storyline was good and explained just enough. The effects were awesome. And the ending was just fantastic.
It lived up to all my expectations and was one of the best horror flicks I have seen this year, and I watch a LOT of horror movies.
Damn. I seriously wish I liked it, aye.
shareI liked it alot too - I was surprised.
I went back and watched the original in preparation about a month ago - and it was very dated...the makeup work of course still held up as did Doug Bradley's performance.
This new one - I think is very believable acting from the lead character (Riley)
Something about this one is staying with me - great use of computer and practical effects throughout.
I also liked the added lore around the box and its different stages/configurations and 'gifts'...The story was well laid out to see two different 'final' stages. that final scene, wow, I had to re-watch that. A transformation unlike any other committed to film.
This could be one of those movies I'll watch again and again - will see how it holds up on repeated viewings.
It was much better than I expected. I've seen the first two countless times (but don't care for any of the sequels) and was very worried by the trailer.... Didn't expect much from it but ended up enjoying it quite a bit, despite the bland writing and somewhat uninspired performances. Some nice visual and sound design ideas, fantastic costumes and makeup. Well worth a watch.
shareI agree with pretty much everything you said. Despite its flaws it was really enjoyable. I loved the scene in the van when they were trying to escape, that was really nightmarish.
shareYes, that sequence was indeed very well done.
And Riley being able to catch a glimpse of Nora's fate at the hands of the cenobites in the rear-view mirror, and the Hell Priest glancing back at her, was quite chilling.
I thought the hospital sequence was also very well done.
It's too bad Hiam Abbass (Serena) was the only member of the cast who managed to turn in a (short but) memorable performance. I really wish the cast had been older.
